Sunflower Santa. Take 2!

So a while ago (like, a month) I started on an adorable sampler of Santa Clause surrounded by sunflowers, as a Christmas gift for my boyfriend's mom, who collects Santa figures and sunflowers (lucky break!)

Unfortunately, I made a stupid newbie mistake and totally stitched to the end of the row, even though I was supposed to skip stitches to make the leaves.

Despite a lot of encouragement from the amazing people on this board, I chose to act like a 5-year-old and refused to even think about the project for weeks. Until my boyfriend pointed out that if I had just torn out the offending stitches, I would have probably finished by now. >.<

So of course, I immediately snapped out of my immaturity and tackled it with fresh eyes. Haha, just kidding! I whined until my boyfriend asked to see the pattern and cut the darn stitches out himself. :P

So, now I’m back on the horse and have made a TON of progress (see below!) Sure, there are still little hiccups here and there, but I see no problem finishing this by Christmas. Heck, I might have time to make a few more things as gifts!

Thank you so much! I'm really glad to be back on the stitching boat! And lessons learned re: taking my time and looking at the pattern!

Can't wait to provide you guys with more pics, especially once there's a new color!

Woohoo! I know what you mean about getting stubborn and just not wanting to do it - I was that way for two YEARS with a project because I made such a big mistake and couldn't just tear things out...I would have had to tear out the 1000+ stitches.

It is looking great@

@catie: holy cow! yeah, stories like that make me feel downright bratty for throwing a temper tantrum over a couple hundred stitches (and they were all in one big section and all one color)!

Hooray for both of us for tackling our stubbornness (eventually)

Pleased you are trying again! :applesauce:

I always check and recheck the pattern before I make a stitch and I still make a few little errors but you can always get around them.

I wish I had a boyfriend who would help me with my stitchng. Perhaps I should get one. Mind you, I'm not sure my hubby would like that much - LOL!

Cherish the boyfriend, he's obviously the right sort :-)!

Good work on Santa, and what a stroke of luck to find a sunflower Santa for someone who collects both!

Can't tell you how good it feels to have a project again!

Well, I'm glad you conquered your anger. Don't take it so hard. We've all done it or something similar, even after checking and counting. It happens.

This is such a cute project!! I had a similar situation before where I had started on an HAED and realized that the fabric would be a few rows too short, and I had to start the 400ish stitches over again :/ lucky that your boyfriend helped you out!!

Alrighty! Check out Santa's beard! I did all the white over the holidays, except for the bottom part of his coat, which I'm still on the fence about.

Great progress! :applesauce:

Sometimes hurling the offending mistake into a corner is the best thing!!

Then some one like your lovely b/f can make things 'all better again'
Almost worth the tantrum, I say!!
