I think I tried using a hoop once in the distant past, never again. I've stitched in hand my entire life, only in the past 6 months or so that I got a Qsnap so I could stitch the HAEDs. I still only use the Qsnap for the tiny stitches required for the bigger HAEDs (where I can't go sewing style), I don't even use it on QS Lovers 'cus that's 18 ct Aida and I can stitch sewing style on that.

Meagan and I were skype stitching and it was the first time I was.plucking the project up again. I tried unsuccessfully to use the scroll stand and I couldn't do it. Going to the burn pile...

i only use qsnaps..but i bought a floor stand for a scroll frame..i hate it. i have to twist the knobs to turn the scroll to start and end the floss. so time consuming..

Why? I'm a nibby nose and I have seen q-snaps and touched them but never actually stitched on them and must say I never really much liked the lack of tension and the bulk of them. So I'm curious what it is about hoops and scrolls you dislike and why you find Q's better.

I've tried all the hoops and scrolls but always go back to my 6" hand hoop, I am most comfortable with that. The Q snaps just never appealed to me.

I use both. Sometimes the qsnaps are great. I like those for my HAED's as I think the tension I get is just right. I use hoops for the afghans because the qsnaps just don't work right, either because of the size or the type of fabric. and sometimes a hoop seems right and sometimes a qsnap. I've never been able to stitch in hand and I don't think scroll frames will fit in my "stitching spot". I think this thread once again proves how there is almost never a "right" way to do anything in cross stitch. One reason I love it so much.

I agree, Carole. I used to be a bit embarrassed of my stitching 'cus some older friend of mom is the perfectionist stitcher and she always said it was nice that I stitched, but that I should start stitching the right way soon if I wanted my work to "matter".
I was still very young then (about 12) and even stopped showing people my work, was terrified someone would look at the backs of my projects or see me stitching in hand and not following the basic guidelines of stitching in order to achieve a perfect back.
It wasn't until years later that I realized I'd never want to enter a competition, and that the back didn't matter if my project was framed or attached to some other fabric and that people in general appreciated my work and "professional" stitchers could think whatever they wanted.
And now that I joined the forums, I see that all type of stitchers can get along perfectly well and appreciate each other's work, at all levels of expertise.

I'm doing my HAED SAL on a hoop, my chart from Skitzz I'm doing on a scroll frame with a lap stand and my afghan with a qsnap!!!!
Much prefer the hoop or the qsnap as I can curl up in my chair with these. Using the Scroll frame because I had a clip on magnifer for christmas.

I hate this too! I'm using a scroll frame for the first time for a needlepoint project and it's a real pain in the neck to have to have to unscrew it from the stand to get to the back each time I want to weave in the ends. For me qsnaps win every time - although I don't mind using hoops occasionally either. I wish I could stitch in hand.

I like my Qsnap for my HAEDS but until I bought mine I stitched the first two rows of dragon riders in hand...it never occurred to me to use a hoop since the fabrics was so huge lol but for my mini I'm using a small 7" hoop I believe...it all depends on size of project for me, but scrolls freak me out lol

I've thought about trying Q-snaps - but I must be the odd one as I love using my scroll frames and Lowery stand (best stand ever IMHO)! With both my Chatelaines I am dealing with half a yard of fabric, I know I could pin it using a Q-snap, but it is just easier to have it all stretched out (almost - bar a tiny bit of folding each side on a 30 inch frame!) on a scroll frame. When I am stitching small designs, like Mabel's Hardanger squares then I always use a hoop - I need really strong tension with them. I've never stitched in hand, I would worry about my tension.
One thing I have learned on this forum is never say never! I'm currently working on HAED QS Bookend Kitties and am loving the parking method and I never thought I would say that!!!!

I'm an in hand stitcher. I have tried a hoop but I get frustrated with bumping into the edges of it as I also cross country stitch (and I was using quite a big hoop too). Not tried Q Snaps or a frame. I love the look of frames, but can't really justify the investment for something that I might not get on with.

That is the one benefit of the scroll frame Amanda, I'm thinking that the Sistine Chapel will have to go on the scroll frame as the fabric is over 50 inches long!!!!

I've never tried qsnaps. In the three projects I've done I've always used hoops.
What does the acronym HAED stand for?

HAED is for
Heaven and Earth Designs.
Hard to resist once you start looking at their designs.
