Quick Question

about the DMC perle cottons.

I'm currently working through the Victoria Samplers sets and have just tried gridding a project. I washed it before I stitched with the perles but this is a bit of a pain (to wash in the middle of a project)

I know not to wash the speciality threads like the Carons or the variations etc but what about the perles?

I'd like to continue gridding because its SO much easier than counting on even weave (though my counting and gridding on evenweave needs work...) but then the project needs washing and I don't want to wash it with the perle's etc in if there is a chance that they will run

thanks folks

I use DMC pearle cottons in my hardanger projects. I have yet to finish a one, but on my orange project, I've washed that at least 3 times (I like to draw lines to make sure I am lined up properly). I think I have washed my blue one at least once- maybe twice. No problems.

The DMC pearles shouldn't be a problem to wash. My daughter's Christmas stocking is done with pearle cottons and got an unexpected bath when our basement flooded. The only ones I had problems with color bleed were the Weeks variegated ones. The DMCs were fine.

The only problem with washing DMC pearls is they lose a bit of their sheen. Otherwise I've washed black, read, blue etc and never had a problem.

excellent thanks ladies!

I've gone ahead and gridded the next piece properly (and hopefully successfully! and I won't worry about washing it until I've done all the sewing

I also gridded some aida - sooooooooooo much easier than linen/evenweaves!

I won't be gridding my last project in this series though as it uses a lot of Caron wildflowers(? I think - might be one of the other Caron's though) and I don't want to risk washing that unless I have absolutely no choice
