HAED Dragonriders - Dragon Afghan update 8/21/12

I thought I had a thread on this, but I had hardly started it when I stopped to do the gift for my sister. Picked it up last week. Not getting quite as much assistance since the weather has been lovely (until today when winter came back) and Miss L really loves the new French door over stitching during the day:

this afghan cloth, though exactly the same as the others, is not quite as soft, but at night, help is still around:

This is what it should look like (the same one that Megan is doing, but she is way ahead of me):

and this is how far I have gotten. About 2/3 of page 1. It goes fast since there is almost no confetti yet.

Great start on the HAED! Love this pattern.
Do you think Laverne knows that she is now an internet star?

Beautiful!!

So like the Pern dragons. Is that 18 count afghan fabric? 2 over 1? I like the coverage so far. Just checking for my Anne cloth.

yes it is 18 count afghan cloth, 2 over 1. Pretty good coverage, I've thought at times that because this is a pretty open evenweave that 3 over 1 would be best, but too much thread and the 2 strands does fine. I've used Anne Cloth in the past and I'm pretty sure I did 2 over 1 also, except for a few designs that for some reason I did over 2. Baby afghans maybe with only one main design in the middle. Did 3 over 2 for those, I think.
And yes, this is absolutely like the Pern dragons. I read everyone that Anne McCaffrey wrote. Some that she wrote with her son, but I don't like those nearly as well. Also have them all on audiotape. Next to LOTR the Pern series is my favorite, I think.

Yes, it DOES look rather like a Pern dragon, doesn't it? Though the colour is wrong for Pern - unless that's a Bronze, rather than a red...
It's going to look fabulous regardless! Great start!
No, Todd isn't quite as good as his mom, but he has a great knowledge of Pern and manages to fit his stories nicely into the time gaps she left. I particularly like his championing of the poor old Watch Whers, who had a hard time of it before!

I like to think of it as a bronze. And I do agree that Todd did do a good job with the watchwhers. Considering how devoted Lessa's was to her they really don't get the respect that they should. I always have wanted a little dragonet, preferably a little gold queen, but I would be happy with any one of them.

I'd even go with a green! Although - I think maybe I'm bit old for a randy little green, come to think of it!

I guess I should look out for a miniature Ruth! A little white dragonet.

You've made great progress already.
I see Miss L was not in to having her lovely face photographed today.

Thank you for the info Carole. Definitely a bronze dragon, it's very majestic. It must the sun making it seem so red.
