Ink Circles WIP's ~ Updated May 26th

I decided to put both of these in the same thread, since they are both Ink Circles designs, they are companion pieces, and I'm stitching them for my boyfriend's sisters. :) I have a lot of firsts going on with these. This is my first time using 32 count lugana, first time using satin floss, first time stitching over 2, and first time I chose a unique color of material and thread.

So, both are on 32 count lugana, stitching 1 over 2.

Bramble and The Rose. I chose a purple/blue material, and am using DMC satin floss in a darker purple. Here is what it basically should look like:

Here is where I'm at right now:

Woodland Vines. I chose a yellow material, with some white throughout and a darker yellow DMC satin floss. Here is basically what it will look like:

Aaaaand, here is where I'm at right now:

What lucky girls your boyfriends sisters are! Those 2 are gorgeous (I've been eyeing 'em...) and your color choices are going to be spectacular! :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce:

I'll be looking forward to your progress on these 2! :)

Thanks! It was tough to decide on the colors. There were just so many options. I kind of wish I had chosen 2 different shades of floss.

And ack! The progress photo of Woodland Vines is sideways. Stupid photobucket. :x

:applesauce: those are both lovely. The colors you picked are perfect and you have made a great start on them too. Your boyfriend's sisters are going to so love these, I'm sure. :applesauce:

Love both these patterns - they are on my list as you know! I'm waiting for some fabric samples to narrow down my choices (think I've got the thread sorted!) - but in the meantime I can watch your lovely WIPs!

*sigh*

I looked at my progress so far in the daylight yesterday, and wasn't at all pleased with what I saw. May I suggest not using those DMC satin flosses for such a large project? They looked squished, and a lot of the squares look funky, and partially stitched, if that makes any sense. The satin floss is so slick, that it's difficult to get a good X sometimes.

So, the perfectionist in me has decided to start all over. I ordered some silk variegated threads from Victoria Clayton yesterday, so hopefully I'll be back on track this weekend.

I'm sorry you're having to start over. :( I do love both of these designs and love your color choices. Hopefully, the silks will work out better for you.

Sorry to hear about the threads - I did think that you were a very brave person to tackle this project with just DMC satins (rayon) thread  ! I'm sure the HDFs will be gorgeous and you'll be back on track in no time!

Yeahhhhhh. I had never worked with them before, and had no idea how slippery they'd be. Whoops!

I'm just glad I looked at them in the daylight now, instead of later.

Sorry that you have to start over. I am sure the new threads will be beautiful. I used a few satin threads when I was doing TOS and remember that they were slicker to use than regular DMC, but only used it for a few stitches and not the whole project, so it looked good. But I agree that they don't make the easiest cross stitches.
