A Victorian Sampler

Post by backafteradozenyrs »

I bought the book for this chart at the used book store ("Chamblains bookmine" in Jacksonville, FL....their outside sign used to say "we have rare, out of print & non-existant books") It's a ginormous fun place to visit (except the cross stitch section is miniscule!)

Originally, this :wip: was just going to be in my stash...but I've collected the beads, thread & now the fabric for it.

Image

So I did a fabric "test" to see the count on this cloth (bought it at WalMart & posted in the store thread earlier today):

Right near my stitching you can see the pinkish slub that sold me on using this fabric for this :wip:

Here's a detail of the finished piece:

Image

When I went to buy the floss, the called for one (#3046) seemed to biege-ish too me, so I also bought (#3820) which seems gold enough....what do y'all think?

Image

It's funny (ironic) because in these scans, the 3046 does seem like the correct one; but in the family test the 3820 more closely matched the photo (in day light)

That is a gorgeous one and I love your fabric, so unusual. I think 3820 is the one to go with as the other could be lost on the fabric?? How about doing a few test stitches on a corner and see which is right.

Oh, the colors are so gorgeous! Pinks and greens are my favorite combination. And the yellows/golds are a perfect fit.

This is going to be so lovely. I'm glad to be watching this. Thank you!!!

Sorry about that, I don't know WHAT I was thinking (or not thinking...this insomnia is making day-time miserable!)

edited to add: sorry the bottom is cut off....& you can see the "goldish" color of the yellow.

The sampler is beautiful and the fabric is too, though I am also sorry to hear that it isn't the best for stitching on. Did you ever figure out what the count is on it? I hope it starts to feel better for stitching as you do more of it since it really looks like its made for this kind of sampler. Looking forward to your updates.

Hi Carole, to the best I could figure ("count") it's 30...not too sure if it's actual "evenweave"...but the threads are not equal.....some are thinner than others.
