DONT use fireline for gridding!!

When I recently saw the post of using fishing line as a gridding tool, I thought it was a fantastic idea. I had black Fireline handy at home, so I tried it and gridded an entire page of my HAED pattern. Well, I didn't like it which was fine so I pulled it out, but now there are black dots at all the holes I went through!!

I thought it would be ok once I stitched over them but I am working with pale tans and beige's and I can still see the black marks through them!

I'm thankful that only one row landed in an area of light stitching, the rest are in areas that contain browns and charcoal.

Im hoping this will just be a case of "You can only see it because you know its there"

So whatever you do don't use the Fireline brand of fishing line!

Thanks for the warning! Hope it's not too noticeable in your stitching. :x:

Will they wash out? If the line was left sitting onthe shelf it could have collected some grime? Fingers crossed you can get rid of them.

That's awful!! I hope it washes out. I've been using Cajun Line (8lb) and Trilene (4lb) red monofilament line and haven't had any issues. Maybe the fireline had a coating on it or was dirty?

The fireline is not normal fishing line. Its a braided line and it feels a bit waxy. Needless to say i should have know better, now that i say that, but i was just so excited to try it and its what i had available at home at the time!

It's probably the wax coating then. I'm so sorry!! :( I imagine it should wash out without too much of an issue. If you decide to try again, definitely get a monofilament line instead of the braided type and avoid anything that might have a coating.

I couldn't find any colored fishing line, but I did find a brown colored leader material for making leaders for fishing. Its basically fishing line but its not a big amount, its only a 27 yard spool. Anyway that seems to be working well, its easy to stitch around/over and it'll pull out nicely.

I don't even grid usually, but I had to in order to try parking. I just had a hard time finding the right spot without the gridding in place.
