New to Cross Stitch...please help

Post by sandracma »

Im currently working through the Lanarte Platinum Spanish Beauty Kit, and the numbers present as follows:
Symbol = 23-26,
Symbol = 30-32,
Symbol = 33-40... does this mean 1/6 of each number colour?
Also at the bottom it shows further symbols with =1/6 nr.23-(24-26) + 1/6 nr.21-(22)?

Help what does this all mean?

I'd be confused, too! I can't help, but I bet there is someone here who can. I presume you've read all the instructions (had to ask -- lots of people are still anti-RTFM ) and they haven't been helpful. Well, you can always get in touch via email or post with the company. You'd be amazed how often this tack works.

:thinks: I have to admit I'm lost too... without actually seeing the chart I can't even picture it in my head.. There should be somewhere in the instructions a way to contact the the designer. If anyone knew how to read the chart it should be them!

I also have no clue what that last box means. The website you posted has a Contact pagewith phone numbers, an email address and links to their Facebook and Twitter sites. I would send an email and also check the FB page as there probably have been others who needed assistance. Good luck with getting this answered. And now that you know how to post a pic, I hope you will post updates on this piece. I am very curious to see it being stitched.

I think that that are saying that you need to blend Color 19 and 20 2 strands of each so you would be using a total of 4 strands when you are stitching the n symbol. That is the same for all of the 19-20, 21-22, 23-26, 27-29, 30-32 and 33-40 those are all blended colors and so you take 2 of the first number and 2 of the second number and stitch those together for that symbol.

Those at the bottom are also blended but you only use 1 strand of each of the colors that are indicated for each symbol. 1 strand of 23 and 1 strand of 22 for the square symbol, 1 strand of 19 and 1 strand of 23 for the mushroom looking symbol and so on. That is how I read it. But I am not positive as I ave never seen a pattern marked in this way.

Maybe it would be best to contact the company for better explainations..... :doh:

I'd definitely contact them. On the first sets of numbers in the main box, the 19-20 etc, these are definitely blended stitches. I differ a bit from Rose as at the top it says 2/6 and demonstrates cross stitch with 2 strands. So for these I'd take one strand of each of 19 and 20, put them both in the needle and then stitch the cross with 2 strands of thread. The stuff at the bottom though I just don't understand. I was wondering if it is some hideous blend where you do the bottom half of the cross in one blend and the top in another. Unless they're going for some odd texture effect though I don't get why there aren't the same number of strands in each stitch.

I second Rose's explanation. It is one of the more complicated ones I've seen.

I think they mean blending too. Rather an ark ward way to explain it though. Looks more like a completed maths sum!

Hope this helps you. My understanding looking at the chart is as follows: You need to stitch with 2 strands throughtout. Thats what 2/6 means.
23-(24-26) are all the same shade as would be 21-(22). Check if this is so. Therfore to stitch the square symbol you would take 1 strand of either 23 or 24 or 26 (all the same shade) and combine it with 1 strand of 21 or 22 (same shade) Total 2 strands. For the mushroom symbol and other symbols in this category follow the same process. My understanding would be that the amount of thread required for a particular shade necessitated filling 2 to 3 slots etc as all would not fit into one. Hope this makes sense to you. Good luck with your new adventure. Cross stitch is exciting and addictive. :D
