Time to Introduce Myself

Post by imogenX »

Hi everyone!

I've been skulking around the forum for a week now. Guess it's time to introduce myself. :)

I love books, chocolate, "classic" videogames, fantasy and science fiction (esp Doctor Who & Battlestar Galactica).

I've been cross stitching since childhood, and have recently come back to it after a year-long crochet binge. I think my love for cross stitch is related to my love for math and logic. It is amazing that a uniform grid can yield such beautiful and diverse artwork. I'm in the process of restocking my Etsy shop, and working on some original designs.

I tend toward smaller projects, but have been endlessly impressed by the huge projects shown on this forum. I'm looking forward to getting to know some of you and learning from all of you.

Time to get back to stitching!

 Hello and welcome to the Forum from South Carolina. I saw the UFO you posted. That was one of the first BAPs that I did soon after I started cross stitching. I wish I had a photo of it, but gave it as a gift and will probably never see it again. I enjoyed looking at yours. On black fabric too. I was not that adventurous. Teresa Wentzler was probably my favorite designer until I was introduced (this forum being to blame) to HAED's though I still have a few TW's to do on an afghan that is a serious UFO right now.
Hope you will post more pics of your work. We love pictures.

Hi Megan from Florida (although I lived in the DC area 30 years!). This is a great forum and, although I have stitched for many years off and on I was stuck in rut as to how to do things. I have learned so much here.

Welcome to the forum. :)

I'm a fellow gamer, both of old school games and very current ones. What sorts of video games do you consider classic/what games do you like to play?

Thank you, everyone! I love the sense of community here. I've only known 1 other person who liked to stitch, and she mostly stuck with alphabets. I had no idea there could be such a social element to such a solitary activity. Love it! And I've already learned some pretty neat things. :)

Mary - I just moved here last Spring. You lived here for 30 years? Did you ever find a decent needlework store?! Apparently several have closed in recent years, and I have 1 more I need to check out, but I suspect they carry exclusively needlepoint canvases. I'm beginning to think I need to move back to the country where they appreciate crafts!

Brandi - I prefer puzzle games. My all time favorite game is Ocarina of Time for N64. I'm sort of a Zelda freak and I've been searching for the right Link pattern (or image to chart) for years... Second is probably Portal, but I still haven't played the sequel. By "classic" I mostly mean NES/SNES/80s-early 90s. I've played games like WoW and Everquest, but my OCD tendencies come out and I spend hours (or days) on them. Mostly on useless things, like Mining. I'd rather be stitching or reading or one of my million other hobbies, so I try to avoid those huge RPGs now. :) How about you?

First off, you should check out Sprite Stitch, there are lots of lovely (and free) video game cross stitch patterns including a lot of Zelda ones. :)

I mostly play RPGs, but I do enjoy puzzle games and the sorts of games you can find on iphones/facebook, though even those I prefer the puzzle/thinking sorts like bejeweled, scrabble (words with friends), yahtzee (dice with buddies), pictionary (draw something), etc.. I do love old school games. My brother has an atari, NES, SNES, Genesis, (either a Saturn or Dreamcast, but it's in storage right now) that I play on sometimes. And I've got a Wii, NDS, 3DS, PS2, PS3, and PSP. My favorite series are Kingdom Hearts, Persona and Tales of (the Abyss, Symphonia, Graces f, etc...). I'm not much into MMOs, I'd rather just play involved games like that on my own. I also am quite fond of Wii Sports and Guitar Hero. :)

Yes, I love Sprite Stitch! But I'd really like to do something HAED-ish with Link.

I'm really looking for something like this:
(posted by ShieldMaiden on the Ocarina Network here)
Image

She charted this herself! My problem is finding that perfect picture of Link to chart. This one from Deborah on Sprite Stitch comes close...
