What type of stitch is this?

Post by JazzeyBear »

I'm working on a kit, and I've come across a few (more like a lot) of stitches that I'm not sure if I'm suppose to only use half of a stitch or a full stitch. It has back stitching going through it with the symbol in a corner.

This picture shows the two half stitches with the back stitching going through the middle, and than the 4 symbol in a corner along with the half colored in circle in a different square in a different corner.

This picture is showing the full symbol with back stitching going through it and than the symbols in the corners. I somehow misplaced my directions (didn't think I would need them. Thanks for the help!

The way it looks is that the squares with the small symbol in the corner are meant to be 1/2 stitches. As you say there are also full size symbols that have the BS lines going across them so that must mean that there are full and half stitches in this pattern.

At least that is what makes sense to me.

To me it looks like that you are still supposed to do the two half stitches but they haven't shown one of the symbols because it would be covered by the line for the backstitch (that's what I would do anyway :D )

I think the girls have sorted this but I will put it my way and hope between us you can figure it out? where there is a full X with a back stitch line you stitch a normal X stitch, - where there is a small x in the corner and blank in the opposite corner and has the line running through - the biggest part is the three quarer stitch the smallest corner is the quarter stitch making up the full cross stitch and your back stitch over the top, where there is a small x and nothing in the other corner and the back stitch line goes straight across the middle I would do two three quarter stitches then your back stitch line, I do think there are symbols missed from the blank squares as these do have to be filled in so go with the colour nearest tha square and do the quarter stitch - hope this makes sense? and if you are still not happy after trying it then contact the maker and ask to be put right?
