Tips on framing

Post by topbiddy »

Does anyone know the best way to frame a piece that hasn't got much of an edge. I started one ages ago and finally finished it. Now I know why I left it aside, I must have thought it wasn't going to work. There is only an inch/inch and a half all the way round. I usually leave several inches to allow for edging etc. Its a shame to stick it in a draw again.

Is there enough so that you could lace it???? I would think that was the best, but you could also try framing staples I have not used them but I have been told they are very easy and work well.

If you have a sewing machine just stitch wide enough strips of medium weight muslin around the edges to accommodate any matting and lace as usual. No sewing machine, you can usually find a clothing alteration shop that can do it for a few dollars, £, €, or whatever.

Is is it possible to mount it on top of the backing?
Maybe turn back the edge in a narrow hem or fringe it. I didn't want to fame something so I mounted it on cardstock, so I think you could mount something and then frame the backing, it might also serve as a border.
