DMC decimal

Post by MnLtWspr »

I noticed that some color codes of dmc have a decimal point before them (like .603)... Anyone know what it means or why its there? I was able to find out why some had two numbers but i couldn't find out anything about this

Is it to make sure you read it as .603 and not 309

I have seen a _ under a 6 and 9 before to emphasize the number, but don't remember ever seeing a decimal point in front of one. I'll have to go check on some of my skeins.

That is a good idea, but the 3 would be backwards if you saw the 6 as a 9 wouldn't it? and they also have .601, .602, and .605

I just e-mailed my hobby shop about this. I will respond here with their answer as soon as I get it.

Ok. I got the response from my hobby shop, and they said, their supply is normal. No decimal. So I guess the only way to find out for sure what it means, is to contact DMC. JMO.

I've noticed the decimal also but never figured out why it's there.
I wonder if these are some that are different in the US and everywhere else.

I've been "bobbinating" the DMC floss that I received on Friday and have seen one so far with a decimal point. Don't think I would have even noticed it before this thread. It was 986. I think these are pretty old. I haven't noticed if they are on my newer skeins or not. I think the only ones who know for sure are the DMC folks. Have you tried emailing them? Would be interesting to see if they respond.

I have never noticed this on any of my flosses but I have also never paid any attention to them either so I am :thinks:
