Mat tips?

Im thinking of cutting my own border, (I think you call it a mat), Im going a use acid free scrapbooking cardboard.
Any tips or ideas on why I should or shouldnt do it? its all new to me.

I have a big chunky panda cross stitch that I got proffessionly framed but these 2 Im wanting to have a go at myself will only be about 5'x7' or 6'x8' when I stitch them and thought being small might try to do it myself.

Make sure to measure everything multiple times before cutting. Use an exacto knife to cut.

I had a bit of a look around online but couldnt find anything, will have a better look tomorrow.
No worries about my remembering to measure and re-measure as my OCD wont let me have it any other way, haha you can just imagine cross stitching for me can be interesting some days when its bad and have to keep counting! hahaha drives me nuts, I know Im in the right spot but no, have to recount over and over haha.
Yes have one of them knives SOMEWHERE in my craft area hahaha.
