do you keep losing stuff?

Post by Tonystitcher »

I have an armchair with cloth arms and everything i place on it falls off and i have to keep picking them up off the floor. now i use knob pins which i place my scissors over them. my threader and thread keepers. then nothing can fall off and get lost.

also i use velcro under my laminated patterns and a piece of old white sheet on my lap with the velcro so it stops my design falling off my lap and dropped needles can be found easier.

btw home now in bed stitching.

So glad to see you are at home and able to stitch. :D
I hope this means you are on the road to recovery and will be up and about soon.
I have a little table on my floor lamp that holds my stuff but the one thing I always lose are my needles. My fingers aren't as agile as once were and I bobble the needle and it falls god knows where. Everyone in the family then leaps up and starts the scramble search so the dog doesn't get them. Amusing, I'm sure to an outsider looking in.
Look forward to seeing what you are working on.
Take care
Cheers :wine:

This is what I have done if you have a leather sofa or chair you can use a long bean bag to hang over the arm and attach them to this.

glad to read you are home and stitching again :)
Having stuff falling so often would drive me nuts! I already have trouble because I sit on the left side of the couch that is where I have a little side table with a lamp. It bother me that I have to reach to the left for anything I need, I am right handed...
I found a solution in my Ikea "Dave" laptop table http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00120818/ it is adjustable in height and it even tilt to be used for a laptop. it make a wonderful utility table to hold all your stuff while stitching, its leg go under the couch so you can put it as close as you like at your side.

Great news Tony so glad you are home again. :D :D

I always stitch at a table so everything is to hand easily. If outside then I take my tall kitchen stool down and use my embroidery box with a padded lid to hold needles etc and keep the chart tucked under its base.

Love your solutions though and I am sure they work well. :D

That organiser looks like a fun little sewing project! I have tons of fabric stash so I think I'll have a look at making one of those.

I'm forever losing bits of thread that I cut from the skein and put on the arm of the chair when I'm stitching, I usually find them hours later stuck to my clothes!

Yep, I'm always losing stuff too. It's not so much that it falls off, though my pattern does that fairly regularly, it's more that I put things down like my scissors by my side and I swear that they move on their own, because when it comes to finishing off the next thread, they're not there anymore!

I'm always losing stuff too - my sofa eats my floss bobbins and scissors! Even when I'm sure I've rescued them all, every time I remove the cushions to wash the covers, I always find some long lost stitchy item hidden somewhere

Glad to know you're home and can stitch again!

I don't actually lose my stitching bits much, as I like to stitch sitting on the floor and I leave my chart and necessities on top of the coffee table, so they don't fall on the ground. My needles stay in a magnetic case so they don't run away either. :D

Glad to hear you're home! And nice that you're feeling up to stitching, excellent.

That is a brilliant idea. I wish I'd thought of that before we had a leather couch, but I'll keep it in mind if I ever get my dream overstuff recliner. :)

Anyone else have trouble with their cats knocking bobbins on the floor? Max did that over the weekend. It was sitting nicely on the side table and he picked it up in his mouth and spat it on the floor! Little brat. The pins would keep them secured from kitties too!

My husband got a large sheet of this rubbery mesh stuff from a hardware store, and we cut it into smaller pieces to sit on each arm of my lounge/stitching chair. The pieces never slide off the arms, and the stitching stuff never slides and falls, even when I'm getting in and out of the chair. He said the rubber mat was primarily made for putting in a toolbox so tools don't clatter and slide all over. I've been using it over a year now, and it doesn't stain the fabric of the chair.

I also have this organizer maemae gave the link to. It's a little tough to get very dull needles through the needle puff square, but sharp ones go right in. I also attached a lanyard to the scissor holder because there wasn't enough slack and I would have to bring my fabric to the scissors every time I needed to cut. The lanyard makes the strap longer but still securely attached. My scissors were always (and still do) find their way between the cushion and armrest, but now I just grab the lanyard and pull the scissors up! I slide my pattern between the organizer and the couch and it stays in place instead of flying off anytime someone walks by and creates a slight breeze! The organizer will slide off my blue jean material couch, like maemae said it did hers, so i just don't put a lot in in the pockets. A couple of bobbins or my pattern is about all. I really only wanted it for the scissor strap and needle holder anyway and it works great for those 2 things!

I've been losing things lately. Not my chair eating my supplies.. just not knowing which project bag things are in.

I have home projects and work projects.
Right now, Chicken towel is my work piece.
I am getting close to one of the edges so I took it off the Snap and have started using my small spring hoop. My only spring hoop. My spring hoop that I also like to use for hardanger projects because its so quick to get fabric in and out of, and I think a Q Snap would pull satin stitches or kloster blocks.

My home project has been to get back into Confetti of Hardanger. To spend the time fixing my counting mistakes. Get back into it and catch up. Part 14 was just released this weekend- I am back on 3. Last night I was doing some satin stitched tulips.. and because of the volume of fabric I have this on, I wanted to pop it into my spring hoop to keep the fabric out of my way.. searched through project bags I thought it was in.. then it came to me.. its at work!! Of course its at work- because I want to use it at home. None of my Q Snap pieces were large enough to fit outside what I have already stitched. I think I'll splurge the $2 and get another spring hoop the next time I'm at the store- one is just not enough, and maybe grab a longer set of Snap legs too.

Could not find my bottle of fray stop over the weekend.. searched all over my house and in my project bags. Found it downstairs where I used it on some ribbon that was fraying. Could not find my packet of 24 needles- eventually found those in a bag of random threads.. why it was in there.. who knows.
