Larger count than recommended?

Wondering if doing an HAED on a larger count than 25 (moving up to 18) would make it less detailed looking...Don't have any 25ct on hand, but do have 18ct of the perfect size.

I don't think so. I am doing two HAEDs on 18 ct afghan fabric and I am very pleased with the detail.
It's on page 12 of
Cat Afghan- Amulet and Emmaline thread. HAEDs are done on 14, 16 and 18 ct Aida as well as on 40 ct linen. The only real difference, I think, is the size. If there is any difference in the detail, I think it is so little that it isn't very noticeable. I think you need to be a member of the HAED BB to see this, but I'm not sure. There is a thread
Links displaying the different fabric counts which shows you lots of examples of charts stitched on different sizes. Can't wait to see what you are planning on stitching.

I've done a HAED on 18 ct and the detail was amazing. I've seen several HAEDs done on 16 or 18 ct, and even on 14 ct that kept the details and still looked impressive. It wasn't noticeable less detailed, as far as I could tell. A large chart on 14 ct would be gigantic though.

It's just a QS HAED, so I'm not too worried about size lol. But thank you both. I will be using the 18ct then.

I am stitching Erwin (literate dragon) on 18 ct and it still looks amazing. I don't see any loss of detail at all.
