At the retreat I was given an amazing tip by one of the ladies.
We all have been in the situation that we are at the end of our thread but there is just one more stitch. The thread is short so we take the needle out put it through the hole rethread and pull the thread through. We have enough if we just rethread a few times and then run the needle under a few threads in back rethread and finish off. Well there is an easier way to do this.
You may havve a size #16 crochet hook.....or maybe you do not. The smallest that I have is a #11. Well the 16 works best but I am making due with the 11. What you do is push the hook through the correct hole catch the threads with the hook on the end and pull the thread through. Do this for the cross and then when you are done you can pass the hook under the threads on the back because it is so small and you can finish off by pulling the last of the thread under a few stitches on the back. It is a great solution and one I had never thought of.
Here is a picture of the hook of course in the picture it looks huge but it is not.
I have looked on ebay and found a #16 so I will be buying that and then I will be all set. I hope this is explained well enough and that it can help some of you.

OMG!!!!! How brilliant! Will be trying this asap. Feeling silly that I didn't think of it sooner as I am an avid crocheter as well and have every hook size known to man

I'd been debating getting this
Star De-Tailor especially since I love gadgets, but I'm gonna go look for my old crochet hooks which I think I still have. Or get some next time I'm at the craft store since I think they might work better! Thanks Rose. I also feel kind of silly that I didn't think of this as I was such an avid crocheter before cross stitching.

Thank you for that Rose. I must admit to having a crochet hook to hand and using it once for that purpose, but I usually forget about it.
Love that little de-tailor Carole. I have seen other such things about.

I too felt very silly for not combining my crafts but I guess that just goes to show that you learn something new everyday........

how cool!!! I always end up needing like 1 or 2 more stitches and I know I can squeeze it out of the last bit of thread...and this will help me do that! I work at a craft store so I will pick one up..I don't crochet so I have a big standard size I bought when I got the bright idea to try and teach myself

I guess I am going to have to look to see if I have a hook that small. I have thought of it before but when I am in the midst of this problem, I'm "too busy" to go look for a hook. No reason I couldn't keep it handy in my sewing spot.

Oooh. I have a size 7 crochet hook that I thought was tiny, but I might have to invest in a size 16 as well. The size 7 I use when I do tatting to pull the thread through picots.

See??? THAT'S exactly why I love this place!! I was just pondering this dilemma this afternoon and I see this thread - awesome! I've learned more in the short time since joining this forum than in the bazillion years I've been stitching!
