Help with ornament exchange project

Ok, I'm working on my ornament and I'm working it on 14 count plastic canvas. I have 2 questions.

1. How do you cut the sides where you can't tell there are/were holes. I'm afraid if I cut much more, it'll be too close to the design.

2. How do you finish the back? I'm trying to stitch meaty, but I'm not a neat back stitcher. What are your tips/tricks to cover the back and hide all that?

Thanks ladies!!!

1. I'd just cut the edges the next square from the last stitch---hope that makes sense
2. for ones that I've done in the past, I cut a piece of felt just a bit smaller than the plastic canvas, either plain or the sticky kind will do, and then attach that to the back of the plastic canvas---hot glue or aileen's stitchy glue would likely work for the plain felt

** Love your idea Maggie, about wrapping the edges with thread

I cut one square from stitching, then wrap edge with thread.
Back by gluing to a piece of felt or fabric, with the hanging loop smooshed between project and backing.
