This may seem morbid to you guys, but I have had this on my mind for some time. I lost my mother in 2010, and I would really like to stitch some kind of "In Memory Of" sampler for my sisters and me. I have been browsing online, and no patterns seem to exist for this particular subject. Am I crazy to want this? I'm not skilled enough yet to design my own, so any info would be much appreciated.

Not morbid at all. In fact I am doing two of the same sampler, one for myself and one for a coworker. The quote is "Because someone we love is in Heaven there is a little bit of Heaven in our home." Our very own skitzzz made it for us.

When a friends husband died, I did a picture of him that had been his favourite. Skitzzzzz did an amazing job converting it for me.

I don't think it's in the least morbid. I think it's lovely. But I think you might need to choose a favorite scene and adapt with a memorial quote or alternatively look to samplers like Sweetheart Tree's maybe?

I don't think it's morbid. I've had an idea of a memorial piece to honor one of my loved ones.

Many of the antique (especially Victorian era) needlework (crewel, needlepoint & maybe even cross stitch?) subjects were for/of loved one's who had died.

That may be where the idea of a weeping angel on a tombstone came from? I do know that weeping willows were a theme & large garden urns (with the weeping willow growing out of it). Some of the one's I've seen even had the name & dob/dod of the loved one on it.

IIRC, when I saw some in a museum (& can't remember where/when) that had specific items that alluded to the cause of death (the whole piece basically told the story of the girls short life, she died at 17 or so?)

So, not morbid & definitely ok.
