Ink Circle Carpet Page - Serinde, Wendywombat and Agi

Well, I have started. Only a few stitches, because I have work to do, but I wanted to see how it feels. This is my first time working with a hoop, and I have a bit of a problem with the huge material. I rolled it up, but it makes hand movement difficult, so I am stitching it upside down.

Don't expect too much progress in the next two weeks, but after that, when school and final exams are over...

I agree! I want to see what you're working on too. How long does gridding normally take? I've never done it before.

Great start on this!

Yes I'd like to see a piccy too. I usually do large projects and occassionally do the work upside down or sideways if there is too much material to gather just remember to turn your chart too! For extremely large projects I have a frame called grip n stitch. Its a bit like a Q Snap frame. That way I don't have any fabric to gather.

This is what I have started.

http://www.inkcircles.com/html/book_of_ic.html" target="_blank" target="_blank

I learnt that I have to do the gridding the hard way, when I was doing my Michael Powell freebie. It was small, but I lost count so many times - MP is a bit excentric, so sometimes I just left it like that, and didn't bother, but I decided, never again.

I just take a ruler, count ten, and draw a line with my water erasable pen. You have to be very careful with counting, then it is easy to refer to the lines. I usually do a small area at a time, like one-two blocks- and it is easy to notice if I made a mistake.

With this, though, it was quite difficult to draw the lines, because the pen is like a felt-tip pen, quite thick, and linen has so fine rows. So I decided to make the counting first with stitches. You can see that on the edges. Then I drew the lines following the stitched marks. It took me longer, but I wanted to be sure!

Ahem, anyway, great start and the pattern looks like it will be very interesting for you to follow.

Oh, Agi! Wonderful that you have started. It's such a temptation to begin, too, so we can do this together... could be quite interesting with out slightly-different set of chosen colours.

(And the gridding is very impressive! :applesauce: )

Oh, I had to do my first frogging on it! Have barely started :(
Serves me right: I was lazy to get up from the couch to get the gold thread for the eyes of the cat, so decided to go on with the orange, and leave the place for the eyes empty. When I got there, I forgot, went on about two rows... It wasn't much, perhaps 20 stitches in all, so... *humbly accepts punishment*
I hope this is the worst I will have to froh on this project :D Wishful thinking, isn't it?

Been there Agi. I think of I will just leave that and come back later to get it. Then I start stitching and talking or listening to the TV and I find I have stitched right over  what I was saving. Good luck that you now have frogged :ribbit: your last on this.

Oh Great,Agi! you've made a good start! I've been downloading the charts too but as yet haven't got the threads sorted to start it. What colours did you decide to use in the end? You said you didn't like PURPLE

These are that I chose: (DMC)

310 black
321 red
3818 green
3825 orange (actually, it is rather peach but I liked it better)
519 light blue
824 dark blue
676 for yellow, but with a line of gold under it,
and I haven't chosen the purple yet, there wasn't any in the practice piece I made, so I will choose it later.

You can see my practice piece, and also Serinde's list of colours, if you missed it HERE:

Ah ok! I think I had seen you (or someone else) post that link a few days ago? What a neat project and I hope it goes easily for you! I like the idea of it being released piece by piece. Can't wait to see it progress!
