Designs with no backstitch.

Post by nina0000 »

Hi.

I have completed a couple of large Lanarte designs in the last couple of years and I have found that I love the fact that they don't have any backstitch. So now I have been looking into more designers that don't use backstitch.

Luckily my research led me to this fab forum. I have seen alot of HEAD projects on here and while I can see they are amazing pieces, they are not to my personal taste (I'm not fond of fantasy designs).

I like the look of Lavender and Lace. Does anyone know if these designs use backstitch? I also like the look of alot of the Mirabilia designs, although I don't know again if these use backstitch - I have also never used beading etc so the Mirabilia designs scare me a little!

I would love to know about your experiences of working with these designs and any other designs that you think might be of interest to me.

Thanks for reading and happy stitching :-)

I don't know a lot of designers who don't use backstitch. I do know that there are a lot of HAED designs that are not in the Fantasy Mode. Depends on the artist. I am pretty sure that Lavender and Lace and Mirabilia designs have backstitching. I think Golden Kite patterns do not, but like HAEDs they are very large and use a lot of colors and blended threads as well. We have a few being stitched now by forum members. I am sure someone will know which Designers don't use any or at least very little back stitch.

L&L and M use oodles and oodles of backstich, filament, and beading. Stoney Creek also has a lot of the backstich going on.

Not sure if this is your taste, but Little House Needleworks and Country Cottage needlework uses very little of the above, just straight up cross stitch, with some very minor (or even no) outlining required.

Golden Kite, Artecy, Mystic Stitch and Scarlet Quince don't use backstitching.

Don't be afraid of beading. It is not hard to do at all.

Carolanne, I can't even do french knots! Although I have been cross stitching for over 20 years, I have never branched out from the basics. I enjoy doing large peices but have stayed away from anything that deviates from normal cross stitches and fractionals etc.

I think it's time I learnt some new skills :-)

I wanted to second Carole in that while a good deal of the HAED charts are fantasy related, there is a good number of others that cover other tastes. It took me a little big of digging to find one I wanted to do, but once I did it wasn't that hard to find more. :)

Also, if you like large pieces and don't mind blended threads, Scarlet Quince has a good selection and a good reputation. I myself have one of their charts (which I haven't started yet, but that's another story).

There are other sites as well, like Mystic Stitch and Artecy (and there's another as well), but I don't know as much about the quality of these. I believe that there are people who have done Mystic Stitch pieces, but not sure.

If you spend just a little bit of time here, you will most likely find a specific project, designer, or technique you'd like to try. It's the nature of the forum. :D

no shame in not doing french knots or fractionals, plenty of people avoid those! I consider myself an experienced stitcher, and I prefer projects without fractionals or backstitch.

Ill chime in with Haed being not all fantasy, browse site and you may find something you like!
