310 black floss tangles/knots more easily?

Just a question -- does anyone else feel like their black floss gets tangled up way more readily than their other floss? I've been stitching along with very few tangles at all on this current project, and then as soon as the black floss goes in, it feels like it tangles a lot more often.

I haven't noticed it tangling and knotting much more that the other colors, but I have noticed it just isn't as pretty. It doesn't have the same sheen as the other. I've read here that some really prefer the Anchor black, so I'm ordering some with my next 123 order to give it a go.

No my 310 is well behaved but 666 red is properly numbered because every time I use it , it is the devils thread. Knoting and twisting and being all kinds of bad.

I agree. I find that the DMC black tends to be more fussy, but then I find DMC in general to be more fussy than Anchor. I much prefer using Anchor; I wish it was our 'standard' brand instead of DMC. I also agree that DMC black doesn't have the same sheen; it's more of a flat black......and it's thinner. It doesn't seem to cover as well.

I'm not a big fan at all of dmc 310 and usually try and order the anchor 403 when I place an order from 123stitch

ditto here! Anchor isn't perfect but is a lot better IMHO.

I've noticed this as well. It seems to be stiffer too, almost like quilting thread. I should start using 3 strands since it doesn't cover as well but I never remember.

I definitely agree that 310 doesn't cover as well as other colors. I think I remember reading somewhere that something about the dye changes the thread or something? Either way, I think that I too will try to start using more threads or perhaps try Anchor.

I have to agree about dmc black not covering as well as the other threads. It's okay if I'm using a high count fabric but find that I like using anchor for anything that is bigger than 25 ct. I also agree with that darn 666 red, totally knots up on me all the time and makes me curse. I have to dangle a lot more with that one than others. I think I will start replacing my dmc black with anchor eventually since that makes more sense.

I've been doing some backstitching with 310 the past two evenings. It has been one knot after another!!!

I've had slight success with using shorter lengths.

Try using some thread heaven if you have some. I don't use it a great deal but for black and for filaments I find it a real life saver.

Thanks! I do have Thread Heaven. I haven't used it in a while. I'm sure it would help.

So do I -- I'll keep it on hand for when I'm doing black.
