Help - how do I separate Gloriana luminescence

Please please experienced switchers, help! I have a 20yd skein of Gloriana luminescence100/3 silk that I want to use to start my tree of stitches.

BUT - I have never seen a skein like this - I am used to the DMC/Anchor skeins only. This is tiny, looped through a card, twisted and then it looks like two ends of it are tied together at the end! What do I do? I am terrified to cut it anywhere in case I get it wrong - oh, and to add to the confusion, it is variegated (the colour is Ada's rainbow).

I have poor connection here, so cannot get to YouTube at the moment, so if anyone can point me at either a good written guide, or some pictures I would be extremely grateful!

Thanks from holiday!

The answer is - you don't separate it, you use it as it comes off the skein :D . Undo the knot to pull it off the card and untwist the skein and cut a length suitable for your stitching - most importantly enjoy, as it is gorgeous!

Thank you so much Amanda - it is so beautiful to look at that I was just too scared to get it wrong!

No problems :). It is a very fine thread, as it's variegated it would be very difficult to use 2 strands, but should be lovely for some speciality stitches :D .
