Greeting and A Question

Hello from Kentucky! My name is Caitlin, I'm 25 and I've been stitching for a few years, but have only (in the past year or so) really gotten back into it full time.
I've got a question for all of you. Has anyone stitched the Disney Dreams Fantasia 16x12? I'm having issues with the fabric and don't seem to be able to find anyone who has stitched this to see if they're having any of the same problems. I've contacted the company and they're as lost as I am!!!
I'm counting the fabric as 25-count evenweave, which they're telling me they don't make. They say it's 28-count but nothing lines up...?

Hiya - and welcome to the forum!
I haven't stitched this one yet but I got it as a gift for Christmas and I opened up mine to have a look for you.
I counted it as a 28 count evenweave, using both a fabric ruler and good oldfashioned counting. I also asked my partner and he said it looked like a 26 count to him.
It is quite a 'slubby' evenweave so that might be why it isn't lining up completely right.
If you are worried you could consider buying a new piece of fabric in the right count to make sure. I would recommend against aida though because some of this is stitched over 1, which you couldn't do on aida.
I have done one of the other Disney dreams collection already, and have another on the go now, and sometimes the threads etc are a bit odd but it usually turns out ok

Hi Caitlin and welcome to the forum from South Carolina! So glad to see your post and hope that when you get this issue with your fabric straightened out that you will keep us updated on your progress. I don't have that kit, but think I would probably use a different fabric that I was sure was 28 count. As Arianwen suggested, if the fabric is a slubby linen, it could be hard to tell if it is lined up properly. I would probably switch to Lugana or Jobelan for my fabric. Or perhaps the company would let you exchange the fabric you have for a different one?

Hello and welcome to the forum---I agree with Carole---I would definitely be tempted to switch out the fabric to a 28 ct lugana or jobelan

Thank you all!
I tried gridding it just to make sure I was counting properly. Unfortunately I was. I'm hoping to not have to buy the fabric as the kit was expensive enough!
Maybe they will figure it out. I've done several of their kits and I love how they turn out when completed. This will be the first of theirs that I'm doing on evenweave.

Hello from Colorado and welcome to the forum. I hope you get the fabric issue sorted out soon so you can start on Fantasia and share pictures with us. Are you working on something while you're waiting?

Oh of course! Never a dull stitching moment. I'm currently working on 2 HAEDs and another piece that I hope to post about soon.

I'm not clear on just what the problem is. Does it matter that much if the fabric is 25 ct or 28 ct? Whatever fabric came in the kit should be fine to use.

The fabric that originally came with the kit was 18-count aida which, with this particular kit, won't work. Its stitched over 2, and there are a few areas that need to be stitched over 1.
The replacement fabric they sent of the 25-count is too small to stitch the whole design. I wish it was big enough cause I'd just say

it at this point and use the 25-count.

That's very strange to hear.. MCG has been nothing but fabulous (if slow to respond) to me when I contacted them about a problem I had. I'd bought a piece of their linen that was only half an inch larger than I needed, and found it cut so crooked that by the time I straightened it out, I lost nearly 4 inches. Called them to complain, though I seem to remember that it took several attempts to reach a live person. When I did though, they were very apologetic about it and promised to send out a replacement. Which then took several weeks. But imagine my suprise when instead of an envelope, which I was expecting I got a BOX from them.. holding SEVEN pieces of fabric - each double the size of my original defective purchase. I have no idea what the thought process there was - the postit note in the box clearly said 7x32"x(something) 32 Linen, with my name/address on it, as if that's what the person I talked to took the info down on. But hey, I'm drowning in linen! If you don't get a satisfactory response from them and want to try stitching the pattern n 32 count linen instead, let me know, maybe we can agree on a swap for that piece of 25 count they sent you? I'm sure I could find a use for a piece of 25 count!

Normally they are fantastic. I've had small issues with thread (not enough, not the right color, etc.) in the past and they're Johnny on the spot with sending it out. Way more than I need too. I was genuinely surprised with this response. I'm still trying to give them some time to right the wrong. If not, I very well may take you up on that offer. I would love to be drowning in linen. lol.

Awww, ok. I understand now. I thought the only problem was deciding if it was 25 ct or 28 ct, and I was thinking, 'just stitch it; why bother about the count?' If the fabric is too small, that's definitely a problem.
And you know we want to see pictures.
