Have you listened to this? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0002bbd

A woman speaks about the Bayeau tapestry. Really interesting. At the end she mentions the Great Tapestry of Scotland that our Serinde also worked on!

Agi, thanks for posting this. It's the Book of the Week slot, which means there will be 5 "episodes" between now and Friday. An excellent thing to listen to over coffee...

I also saw a programme featuring Judy Collins, probably responsible for the start of my creative life when I was a teenager. What a woman. What a singer!

Double Win thanks to Agi!

I saw the Bayeux Tapestry many years ago...it's fantastic.
It's on my 'Go-To' list for this year to see again in it's updated form.

Also The Scottish Tapestry is on my 'Go-To' list for as soon as it's housed in it's New Home in Galasheils :whoop:

Just listening to it; there seems to be some uncertainty (or disagreement) about the number of colours used in the Bayeux tapestry. This lady says 4; some sources say 8 (with 3 of them used infrequently); and one even says 10 (though it doesn't say which). I wonder why they come to such different conclusion!

Sorry.
I didn't listen well enough.
She says "four colours, red, yellow green and blue, and the ten hues their dyes afforded"

I wonder how similar various dye lots were in the 11th century :-)

Thank you Agi! I enjoyed listening to that. Bookmarked that site as something to return to.

In the way back machine when I was in college I think I may have had every album Judy Collins made (also Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez and other folk singers of the time). I've been humming "Both Sides Now" since I read your post!

Wasn't keen on Joan Baez, but learned to open-tune a guitar in order to do Joni covers. Happy days! Judy Collins introduced me to all sorts of song writers I'd never have met otherwise, like Jacques Brel.

I've really enjoyed listening to the podcasts about embroidery -- Siobhan Redmond is an excellent reader.
