We’ve talked about getting a dog for several years. Back in November, DH wanted to go to an adoption event. We ended up coming home with Onyx. They say he’s a Boston Terrior, but we believe the paperwork is wrong. Not many people were stopping to look at him since there was a sign on his crate that he had a 50/50 chance of using his front left leg again. He was shot some time in the past before he was surrendered. I guess all he needed was a loving home since he started using the leg about 90% of the time within a month of us adopting him. I am still learning how to stitch with him directly under my frame on my lap.

Love and care make miracles with people, let alone dogs who had known worse times. Your buddy is beautiful and looks so wise and understanding. Regardless of his breed and paperwok on it, he will love you to his last breath.
What if to teach him sleep not under the frame, but next to your leg or feet? That would be more comfortable for your stitching and safier for him. My Yorkie since his puppihood "helps" me to stitch lying along my leg (from my knee to the foot as I stitch sitting on the sofa with my feet also on it due to problems with veins). I am sure he will understand if you explain and show him how and where he should lie when you work. Happy stitching!
Well, I can tell you whatever Onyx is, handsome chap, he's not a Boston Terrier! Perhaps somewhere in his past he has a relative of that sort, of course. Almost looks as if he has a brindle coat -- very nice. And good for you, taking him in. I have never understood how anyone could mistreat an animal. Shot!?! Good grief. Glad Onyx is safe with you.
He is Handsome!! Onyx is one lucky dog to have found a home with you!
I think he's a Bitsa Breed (bits of this bits of that!) and probably all the better for it. He looks well settled there.
Cruelty to animals makes my blood boil. (as does cruelty to any living creature) Well done for taking on a dog with a wonky leg. He seems to have gained enough confidence with you to start using it.
for you for providing Onyx with his forever home! I detest people who purposefully harm or are cruel to animals. I can't watch the commercials asking for contributions to Animal Rescue centers/foundations because of the videos and pictures they show. I am a sucker for too many of the donation requests that I get. Did you know, at least in the States and maybe elsewhere) if you use Amazon Smile it is the exact some Amazon but you can specify a charity that Amazon will donate a small (very small for an individual but I'm sure it adds up quickly with multiple donors) % of your purchase to that charity. I had designated the Humane Society at first, but discovered that my local Pet Helpers (no kill animal shelter that Laverne and Shirley came from 19 years ago) is on the list so I send it there.
I think you and Onyx are going to be wonderfully happy together!

He sure is a handsome little lad and oh those eyes. Top marks for giving him his new forever home and looking after him so well. Maybe a little bit of gentle training to lie down lower whist you are stitching would be helpful to you.

Onyx has definitely found a family to spoil him. Even though he follows DH around everywhere and stresses when he leaves, I’m the lap he goes to in the evening. Luckily he doesn’t get in the way of stitching on my q-snaps that often. It’s usually when he wants to be super snuggly that he lays right in my work space. He’ll move grudgingly if prompted, but he slowly makes his way back up.
I agree about the cruelty. When he was surrendered to the shelter, he didn’t have any wounds. It was when the vet examined him that they discovered it. He’s only a year old.
