Stitching plans for 2020?

I have been intrigued by the "Make 9 for 2020" topic over on Ravelry (where there is a stitching group, called It's Stitchin' Time). So here are my (potential) nine projects for the new year:
1. Mabel's SAL (of course)
2. Zoe construction
3. Betsy Morgan's Tall Year Square: finish and construct
4. Elizabeth Almond's "Sublime Stitches" piece
5. Our branch is co-hosting the EG Scottish Regional Day in April, so 2 pieces for that (topic is Way out West, and I don't have the faintest idea, plus a face "mosaic" that I do have a bit of an idea about)
6. Victoria Sampler hardanger ornament that's been festering for more years than I care to remember.
7. the Hare in Rosehips small that I started in November
8. a Lakeside Needlecraft SAL (Winter Cottage)
9. HAED Christmas Fairy (not that I have a hope of finishing it in 2020)
Did I say I've signed up for a proper, real online weaving course starting in January...
And none of this takes into account anything really new that's bound to distract me!

Well, I suppose my first one had better be finishing the SAL before the participants

Serinde, your weaving course sounds lovely, enjoy!
Leaving aside for now the remnant of the SAL, my projects will probably be:
1. finish my RSN Jacobean module
2. start my next module, either goldwork or canvaswork
3. start Soli Deo Gloria, a silk and gold flower
4. finish Llandrindod, a silk Celtic cross
5. finish wool Hengest the Medieval Unicorn
6. finish Queen's Silks, the Helen Mc Cook racehorse design from the goldwork class I took in the summer
7. Come Rain, a silverwork umbrella
8. 30s Revisited, a Helen Stevens kit
9. finish the Ottoman Tulip
With the same proviso as Serinde....

I almost never post plans and/or goals for the new year, but since 2019 was a bust (in terms of stitching), I think it won't hurt and could actually help if I have some plans (with all the caveats that apply to new projects and rescue cats and whatever else life tosses my way)
1. Finish Baby and Parents' Hands by April
2. Mabel's SAL (still have to order supplies but am really excited about this one)
3. HAED Dancing with the Cat complete at least 4 or 5 or more pages
4. HAED O Kitten Tree complete at least 2 or more pages
5. Start a Black Work Project (and hopefully finish it - I have one in mind)
6. Choose another of my many UFO HAEDs and add it to my WIP list
Making this a sticky topic if you don't mind Serinde. That way it won't get lost and others who wish to can add their own plans. Absolutely not required.

Ok, I'll go for this:
1a. Betsy Morgan etui casket.
1. Jack Vettriano "Singing Butler" - 42500 stitches, 18ct aida
2. Finish second part of "Bayeux Tapestry" part 1
3. At least make a start on "Bayeux" 2 and 3 parts
4. Finish "Sunflowers" (Van Gogh) bookmark - 2/3 done
5. Mabel's SAL, of course
Can I add non stitching things? I will, anyway:
6. Finish "O" gauge working model of Flying Scotsman - about half done
7. Start "O" gauge "Mallard" working model.
8. Make progress on card model of German battlecruiser "Prinz Eugen" - about another 7,300 bits to cut out and fit...estimate another 6 years on that
9. After all that lot, sleep for the whole of 2021!!
In true Aquarian spirit, I always take on too much, but do get it done in the end.
(edit - most of it, anyway

I stopped planning ages ago. But it would be great to finish:
1. Venice (exactly 1/2 is done except for the back stitch).
2. "At the Canal" tablecloth
I also have to stitch from zero point:
1. Easter towels- at least 3.
2. A birthday present - a picture (no idea which yet) - for July.
3. A Spas towel (geometry and fruits- this will be for the 5th time- at last for my daughter).
4. Something by Sandra Littlejohns, most possibly- "Cotswold Village".
I looked back at 2019 and was surprised how actually much I have stitched:
1. Janlynn, "Tropical Vacation Window"
2. Janlynn, "The Sportsman's Dream"(I call it "Fisherman's Window")
3. 2 Spas towels (the same design - geometry and fruits- takes more time than any of the above-mentioned pictures).
4. A Christmas tablerunner from a German magazine.
5. Two 1.5 m long x 50 cm wide tablerunners (first - EMS' "A Basket of Wild Roses" and "Wild Roses Corner"; second- EMS' "The Bird Collector" and "The Box Collector".
There must have been something else, but cant remember now.

I want to finish a Hardanger design from Lakeside Needlecraft and a harbour view from Dimensions.
Beyond that I have no plans as we hope to be relocating this coming year. There will always be small designs and some knitting to do which will keep me busy.

I have no plans what so ever beyond getting Son's birthday present finished at least by soon after his birthday.
I do have a few ideas of hauling out one or two of the long held kits but that sort of depends largely on grand children getting engaged/married. 2 of them are in serious relationships so anything is possible.

Hmmm I usually make plans and never stick to them but I know one thing I need to do is just finish all my WIPs before starting new ones which is probably on the top of most peoples plan list!

Here’s what’s on the go,
1. Nativity Stocking for niece’s husband.
2. Snowman Stocking (from Squirrel) for their not-yet-conceived baby
3. Snowman stocking for nephew’s wife
4. Unknown stocking for DIL’s sister
5. Make a few doll quilts. Mostly just want to play around with some quilting ideas, and doll quilts are small, but not a waste of fabric.
6. Learn how to use my brand new Cricut and make stuff. I don’t yet know what stuff....just stuff.

Sojourner is tempting me to stitch the Elizabethan Casket etui from
Willing Hands along with him. Naughty Sojourner! Well, ok, then. Which means a rejig in the "Make 9 for 2020" list, I guess. Well, I've stitched the Hare and finishing the HAED was always more hopeful than reality-based... so there's space, yeah?

I have just googled the casket and cant understand why it is so expensive- 300 US dollars?

I just googled it also. Since Willing Hands is in Australia, I think the $300 would be in Australian dollars? which is $206 US dollars. Which is still a fair chunk of money. What surprised me is that it said the instructions are not included and must be purchased separately which is not something I've seen before in a kit. Though I do admit I do very few kits so perhaps this is something new? They certainly have some lovely things available.

Here in the UK, I bought the book for £19-87 including postage.
Serinde, I've edited my list of 9, so you're on for the casket challenge
Watch this space, folks.
Rather than 32 count linen and DMC, I'm thinking even smaller - 40 ct Verdal and 2 strands pure silk thread, one over one, which means I need to augment my stock of pure silk....
Edit. Just started a trial run on 32ct Murano - no way could It be done (by me, anyway) on anything smaller. So the verdal and silk plan has ben shelved. Using 2 strands of ordinary DMC, is looking OK so far. New stitches for me, haven't done the Smyrna cross stitch before, and lots of other strange stitches to learn.
More later.

Yes, It's Australian dollars which, as Carole points out, is less, but still eye watering. On the positive side, the kit includes very nearly everything: 3 types of needle, 32ct linen, gold silk dupion lining fabric, interfacing, interlining, silk ribbon, a piece of firm card/mount board, wool felt, even DMC pearl cotton. Oh, and 13 full skeins of all the Gloriana stranded silk thread. (You have to find your own pencil, scissors and sewing thread, ruler, etc). One reason the supplies are so expensive is because most of the stuff has to be imported to Australia in the first place.
I could make up the kit myself, of course, and I did look into it. Getting prices of reasonable sizes of Simtex (the interlining) from the US, wasn't easy or cheap! And I've already grumbled about the cost of Gloriana silks! But the savings in time and shipping might not be worth it, strangely enough. Could I have substituted less expensive alternatives. Undoubtedly, if I was younger and had the time and confidence to do that (and the stash). The wonderful author of The Crafty Creek blog (highly recommended!!) did exactly that with the Tall Year Square etui (also by Betsy Morgan) and it's beautiful. But different. I will never do a piece like this again, age and eyesight being what they are. I wouldn't have bought it for myself, but I was grateful to accept it as a present!
Carole, the very detailed instructions are in the
Willing Hands book.
Inspirations kits are connected with their magazine, so it makes sense that they go together, I guess. (
New Stitches used to get around this for non-subscribers by providing kit packs with instructions for a slightly higher cost.

Well, I've made a good start on the front piece of the casket - I will put some pics on a new thread as I go.
Regarding the cost of materials, I'm using DMC cottons, rather than the expensive Gloriana silks, but it looks OK.
I bought 1 square metre of lightweight fusible interfacing for - get this - £1, including postage!!, and 1/2 metre gold dupion silk for £5-99.
Cottons and fabric were in the stash, so total cost will be less than £10, with enough interfacing and dupion to make several more.
TBC
Incidentally, I'm using a hoop for stitching - how the author can stitch evenweave in the hand beats me. OK, will use more fabric, as there'll be waste around the edges, but much easier, and, dare I say, a better job.

Nah, I don't understand how she works in hand on linen either, but our lovely Lyudmila does this very same thing, so it's obviously possible for the uber talented (which is not me).
Well as soon as I get one other piece of work done, I guess I'd better get started...

It certainly won't be 9 for me. Getting another couple pages done on MIIHO would be good, as well as framing a small piece for my sister , when I find it. It seems to have run away from the other pieces during the move.
I have a binder for my quilting goals. I have it set up with monthly projects I want to get done, and quarterly. It also has ideas for new quilts, finishing features and items to buy. Easy enough to add the cross stitch to the pages. Yellow highlighter is for items I complete, and green is for my bonus completed items. It works pretty well.

All Ukrainian folk costumes and rushnyks(towels) are stitched on evenweave, and traditionally they have been stitched in hands. I cant imagine a Ukrainian rushnik, let alone a geometry pattern tablecloth on a hoop. Nowadays some people here do use hoops not as a need, but sooner as a fashion. In the years of my childhood (60 years ago) we knew: if a woman was stitching on a hoop, she was Russian.
