Mother--FINISHED / Father specialty thread SAL

Okay, here's a picture of another project I've got started. I can't show you a picture of the final project because it would be very easy to make a pattern out of it so I'll just have to show you bits and pieces as I go along. The project is the Monday May 11th pattern "Mother" in the 2009 Cross-Stitch a day calendar that I think many of us have around here. I've decided to use specialty threads for all the different words of mother. The main one in the center is the DMC Rayon that I said I was using. I picked up a beeswax thing in the quilting section that you use on threads and that has made things go a lot better, except that I think it's taken some of the sheen off of the thread. I'll have to see if I can wash that out. I'll be using linen, metallics, light effects, varigrated, regular and other threads so I'll let you know how that goes. I'll also be doing the pattern for "Father" too. Hopefully I can get them done this year. This is done on 14 ct "Sundown" aida from silweaver.com. Sorry the picture's so big, but I wanted you to see the full coloring of the fabric.

It looks wonderful already -- I like the contrast of the thread and the fabric. Do let us know how you like stitching with all these different threads!

I haven't stitched much lately because I've had a set back with my left eye. I went to the dr last Monday and he said I was starting to show signs of rejecting the corneal transplant. Since I can't wear a contact lense in that eye while I have to put drops in every 1/2 hour I can't see very well. I started stitching today (using magnification to see the holes) because I find stitching therapuetic and relaxing. So far so good. This is what I've done today.

This is using a DMC linen thread that I thought would be very hard to use but was actually very easy to use. It doesn't tangle up like the rayon or cotton threads do. It was smooth going through the fabric and very easy to thread the needle. The only trouble I had was seperating the number of threads out that I needed. That was about the only time things tangled up. I really liked using it and I will probably get some more. I don't have any projects that I could use it for now but I'll just have to keep my eyes open while stash shopping.

What an interesting project! I shall very much enjoy seeing this develop, and I think you have chosen a fabulous fabric.

Sorry to learn of your eye troubles.

Super fantastic work.

:( That is sad that the eye is not working out well.

Looking really good!

Isn't it interesting how different threads work for different people? I love practically any pure silk, Rose hated the one she tried, Slinky loves them except for the flat ones; you really like the linen threads and are likely to use them more often, I really dislike the feel of them and will never touch them again :-); and as for metallics, people have some very strong likes and dislikes there :-)!

Hope they are able to do something to stop the problem with your eye.
Glad you were able to carry on with stitching though, as I'm sure it's very soothing when you must be worried over your eye.

Lovely progress, and the thread looks great. :)

My eye is fine now. Thanks for all the concern. With all the steriods he pumped me full of it stoped the rejection. He also found a lone stitch still left in my eye from the surgery. That was back in Feb of 2005. It seems the stitch had gotten enbedded in my eye but all the steriods reduced the swelling so the stitch started to come up again. I go back in another 10 days and hopefully that will be the final "all clear" for this. My vision went from 20/200 on the first visit to 20/50 at the follow up. That was how bad it had made my vision (unaided). And it's nice to be stitching again even if it takes just a little more focus and concentration right now.

That is very good news, I hope you can continue to improve. Just be very careful and don't over stress your eyes.
