Kerbear's SAL - HAED Catch a Falling Star **7/27/09 Update**

Post by kerbear879 »

So yes I realize I don't need to start another project...but I had to give Chessie a rest because the color changes were driving me mad. I think I was getting really irritated at how slow my progress was..not to mention I haven't had the urge to stitch in a good 2 months. But I was on the HAED site over the weekend and one of my favorite artists over there and one of my favorite pics of hers finally got charted and I couldn't resist. So this is Catch a Falling Star by Julie Fain.

Image

It's a tad bigger than Chessie at around 200,000 stitches but it has less than 10 colors so I was really happy about that since I won't have to switch from color to color. Already have my supplies and am hoping to start tonight. :D

Right. Ok, I'll buy the story, but millions wouldn't. You have taken a break from Chessie because of the colour changes driving you mad. Right. And this beautiful design is giving you a break... Aye, right.

Serinde--lol yes I am just a serial starter! I blame this entirely on the HAED site..I've got 2 other Julie Fain charts and I just couldn't stop myself when I saw this one too!

That is a great pattern and I love the fact that they have kept it down to just 10 colors. Have fun it will be great to follow your progress!!!!!

It's a beautiful design and how clever of them to chart it while keeping the palette down!

:applesauce: I will look forward to seeing how this one comes along as I've admired these myself.
That's very interesting that there is only 10 colours.... only thing left to ask is.... how many skeins of each colour..??

I love this chart, I had seen it and dithered because I thought there would be a lot of confetti in it, you have just said it only had ten colours yet the finished piece is amazing, I will be watching closel to see how you get on, I was also going to ask how many skeins of each colour it takes? Hurry up and stitch some more, I'm itching to see how it comes on, what are you going to stitch it on?

Actually I was off on the colors..there's 14 colors..but still very low. However, the very dark navy blue is supposed to have 39 skeins on 25ct 1 over 1...I am doing mine on 18ct with 3 strands over 1 so yeah a million skeins of that one color probably. I believe 139,000 stitches is that one color and there is 203,000 stitches all together  . But I kinda like that fact because it makes the project go so much quicker. I actually cleaned out the Michael's on that one color..they only had 15 skeins in stock. I'll have to go back once I run out.

I did work a little on this last night and got about 300 stitches (guess which color? lol)

Kerri really looking forward to seeing this one in progress :)

Are you doing tent stitch or full cross st with 3 strands? Im only curious as Im doing mine on 18ct with 2 strands full cross st but I wish now I had tried different combinations as I'm not really happy with the dark background :(

Bet your start was the dark navy

Lizzy,

I do mine as full crosses and several years ago I was working on a project for my brother on 18ct and had done it with 2 strands and found that I didn't like that coverage with the dark colors because the fabric would show through which is why I do 3 strands now. That's pretty much my standard now on all my projects. It really doesn't come out bulky either. I actually tried to do a 22ct evenweave with my last HAED...and I hated it! So I will only use aida now. It's just way easier on my eyes!

And yep..lots and lots of navy..I think the first 5 pages is just that dark navy color! :P

You can tell I'm not a proper HAED girl -- my first thought when you said how many of the stitches were one shade of dark blue was "navy fabric" :-)
