Need Help with first HAED design!

Hi I am new here. I am in need of some help with a HAED. I just received my first chart and I am lost as to where to start. Do I really need to stitch over 1? I have never stitched over one. Or can I do it on evenweave and stitch over 2? How do I figure out how much material to get?
Thank You

Seeing as I have not done a HAED yet, I don't know if I'm much help. But I do know that you can stitch it on whatever fabric you want to. The 25 ct. linen and the over 1 stitching are just their suggestions. Just be careful with bulkiness if you decide to do it on 25 ct. or anything similar.
Here's some fabric calculators for you:

I would definitely recommend working over 1 when stitching a HAED due to the HUGE scale of the patterns. I'm using 22ct hardanger, stitching over 1 (using 2 threads) and the finished result is still going to be massive! Using the links above you should be able to work out what is best for you.
HAED always recommend starting the pattern from the top left hand side and working on each page, rather than the centre as is the case with most patterns.
I personally find it easier to stitch in columns too due to the complexity of the charts, but people have different ways of doing things.
The HAED website
http://www.heavenandearthdesigns.com has LOADS of helpful hints and tips if you should get stuck!
Good luck and can't wait to see the pattern you're working on!

i have never worked a haed but i do work on another large, fully stitch, confetti filled project.
i work 2strands on 25ct aida cloth. since it is covered completely there wasn't much point in using expensive cloth and when i started, i didn't really know anything about better cloths anyway.
i do use the continental tent stitch though because a full cross is way too bulky. the material buckled after just a few rows.
i tape all the pages together and work a FULL row from the bottom right to left. when i worked page-by-page, block-by-block, you could see the lines forming in the piece.
good luck.

First Welcome to the site, you will get plenty of advice here. On the HAED I got my first pattern a few months ago. I planned on doing it on 28ct monoco but didn't like the way it was looking so I went and bought 22ct aida and tried 1 strand over 1 square (1x1) and didn't like the coverage so went to 2x1 on 20 and didn't like that either so I bought 18ct aida and am doing 2x1 and the coverage is great. I started my pattern from the top left measuring 3 inches down and 3 inches across. (if that makes sense to you) I didn't grid and I don't do colums or rows I just go with the flow I really didn't want the lines to show on this massive piece. Good luck and remember we are here to help in any way we can.

Like the others said, you can do it however you like. However if you want to stitch on evenweave over 2 i wouldn't go any lower than 28 count, which would be the equivalent of stitching 14 count over 1 otherwise your design is going to be ridiculously huge!
I'm doing mine on 28 count over 1, but if that's too small for you to see why not try doing it on 18 or 22 count over 1?

Thank you everyone for your tips. I think I am going to attempt to use 18 ct 2x1. I will start this new project as soon as I finish my current stitching project which is the Story of the Rainbow Bridge.
This is the chart I am going to do Fairy's little companion by Ching Chou Kuik.
Thank you again

I too prefer to stitch my HAED's on 18 count, if you look on the stitch-a-long part of this site you will find lots of HAED's being done on different fabrics, they all look amazing.
Happy stitching
