I was browsing for stash when I came across
this:
It looks pretty handy, but I was wondering if anyone has used one before, and whether they work?

Never used one before, but I'd totally buy one. What I do at the moment is use a piece of normal cotton and a needle to loop around the thread and pull it through, that sounds so much easier though!

Is it a needle threader?

You know when you come to the end of a section of colour and you're about two stitches away from completing it and get to the end of your thread but keep going? Then you're left with a very tiny end you somehow have to secure. This little baby slides under your stitches, you put the little end through it and pull it back out. Not dissimilar to a needle threader, but for securing your thread.

A penfriend of mine from America who is an avid stitcher sent me one of these awhile back. She said 'she couldn't live without it' and uses it all the time. I am ashamed to say I haven't used it yet.

You know, for ages I wondered if a teeny tiny crochet hook would be good for this, and here is something tailor made. I went onto Nordic Needle and saw they also do expensive silver ones which look, perhaps not as pretty, but more robust. Here, but scroll down:

I learned about these on another Cross Stitch site, where they called it a Doolally! Not sure why.
I ordered one, but have not used it yet!

What a fantastic idea - a ready made tool for a problem that I've been frustrated with for quite a while.... I'm often guilty of telling myself "just a few more stitches, and there'll be less spaghetti on the back of the project".

hehe same here C_F. When I have the money I'll get one, I'll live with a needle and thread till then though. But yes, they look pretty easy to replicate.

Wow the silver ones Nordic Needle make are so pretty!
I think I have been convinced that I need one....
I swear nine times out of ten, I just need to make one more stitch, but the thread is that tiny bit too short, and I never want to thread up again for just one stitch, part frugality part laziness.

I just did this 3 times last night....hmmm

maybe I should invest in one of these! Sounds like a handy little gadget!

I'm terrible for eeking out that last little bit of thread. I just have to get every last possible stitch from it, so this would probably get alot of use from me should I ever buy one.
ETA:
If any of you who have them do try them out, please give us all a review, so we can see how handy they really are.

Thanks!

I do the same as everyone else seems to do

I have used a needle threader for the purpose many times!

of course! so simple! gold star for Agi!

Yup Agi, same for me -- I think it's very useful, but a tuppenny-ha'penny needlethreader works just as well

(not as pretty as the silver ones of course... but just think of all the stash you can buy with the money saved by not buying a silver one and using your needlethreader instead

! )

Now, Mabel, arch-enabler: You know perfectly well that is SO NOT THE POINT!
