Manger Scene

Here is the photo I'm using for my next PhotoFabric project:

Image

I won't be stitching for full coverage on this one. There is a lot of detail I don't want to cover up. I'll probably be doing mostly single strand backstitching and half crosses.

I'll take suggestions on what to do for the different areas. I've already printed it out using the highest print quality. This time the fabric didn't catch on anything on its journey through the printer and came out flawlessly. The printout has a bit more contrast in it than the original you see above, but looks great! I'm hoping I don't lose a lot of ink when I rinse it.

I am considering making this one into a pillow.

This would make a lovely pillow! And I was just thinking, the straw should be very interesting to stitch!

I've washed the fabric and again didn't notice any ink coming off of it. :applesauce: And I was really worried about that too.

Sadly most of the detail in that sweet baby Jesus face didn't show up on the printout. So I'll need to try and stitch it on or at least outline it. Still thinking on this one.

I'm much more worried about this project than my other one which I am considering a learning project. This manger scene will be a Christmas gift.

This will make a very special gift! Can i suggest something for the faces? Have a look at old embroideries (there must be pictures online, perhaps the V&A site has some) and see how they did faces using split stitch or very fine chain stitch -- the detail they managed is amazing and might be just the thing for baby Jesus!

Edited:
Have a look herefor some split stitch and lon stitch faces -- great close-ups!

Thanks Mabel, that was a great tutorial on faces.

I did outline the baby's face which I think looks good, but the stitches I made for the eyes, nose and mouth could be darker, think I'll go over those again.
