Rincewind the Wizzard! updated 22 March

I've had this in my stash ready to go for a few years now and I decided that a new year would see my finally start him and hopefully finish him! As he has the most fractional stitches I've seen (so far) on a chart I decided to change the fabric from a 14ct aida to a evenweave. With the hope of making all those fractionals easier!! this is my first time ever to stitch on evenweave and so far stitching is slow! I hoping my speed will pick up when I get used to the evenweave. This will be for my hubby when its done... bless him he's been waiting a while for me to even start
So this is what he should look like when he's finished
and this is the little I've done so far... not much to look at I admit, but its a start

He is going to be great

I did Death and Binky for my Husband

he was really pleased
Good luck with the evenweave..I find it so much easier to work fractional stitches on

I would love to do Death and Binky, they are my fave characters

Any start is a good start. I'm sure you'll get used to the evenweave and pick up speed. I know the first project I did on it took me a few stitching sessions to get used to it.

I don't know anything about the characters thatyou are talking about but I do think this is a very interesting character and should be very fun to watch him come to life!!!!

It's fun to see the discworld characters come to life in stitching. I have a friend who would love this though with all the projects I have lined up I really don't think I'll be taking another one on!

I love the Discworld books (finished one yesterday in fact!) and love this cross stitch. It has made me look around at others, might have to invest further on in the year in one

I cannot wait to see your progress!

I've never seen any design like this one, it's particular and very interesting!
Well, what about evenweave??...

I do love the Discworld books.... which is why when I saw this design I knew it had to be stitched. Although I haven't actually read one in a while....... might have to go and start the next one soon. I think I'm on The Last Continent..... but I've read Mort and Reaper Man a good few times each!!
The actual stitching of Rincewind is still slow due to lots of colour changes and quite possibly more fractional stitches than whole ones!

(ok maybe not, but it can't be far off!

), but I'm getting used to the evenweave and it's not as bad as I thought it would be (I was imagining all sorts of wonkey miscounted stitches!) and I'm actually starting to enjoy stitching on the evenweave...... I'm glad I decided to give it a try...... of course I say this now......

What a cute project!!
It took me a little while to get used to the evenweave at first too, but once you get into the groove you will love it!!

I like the colour you got for the backround, it makes such a change from white! How are you getting on with the evenweave, I see so many charts that say for a finer finish use 28cnt evenweave.

Rincewind now has a face!!

and is no longer a small blob. The stitching on evenweave is getting easier as I get into the swing of it, still its slow work but I blame all the fractionals (I did so many fractionals in his hair it was mind boggling.... I nearly cried with happiness when I came to 2 whole stitches in a row!

)
I'm working upwards now so next time you see him hopefully he'll have his hat!

I like the way you're doing the backstitch as you go, gives him such detail!
