Major frog gathering..help! -update 20th feb (thats today )

Post by *barb* »

Image

Today i was working on the other side and relaised that every frog in Australia had invaded my work

On the brickwork that is on the finished side, one of the shades is very wrong.

I got the symbol that is v mixed up with the symbol that is a tick.

v is a very light peach and I have used the tick colour which is the darker shade of brown you can see in the brick work.

I have done the other side, not all of it finished though, correctly.

The thing is, i had a look at the back and to unpick that mistake it means taking snips close up to the fabric as that was one of the first colours i did so it has stitches on the back carried over them.

I shall finish it correctly, but do you think I should unpick it? Risk it?

There is so much colour that I didn''t even notice anyway...of course, now I know it''s wrong it''s playing on my mind.

edit..i have not done the outline yet so my brickwork doesn''t look like bricks at the moment.

I think it looks fine!! to me the steps/bricks look like they are just worn more with the brownish color...peach i think would be too lite to add that aged look..that is jsut me though I think it looks fine and that it just stands out to you d/t you knowing that it is different!!

click on ""view larger image"" and you can see the brickwork on mine has darker patches than the original piece.

Having looked at the kit cover, I do see what you mean barb, but tbh I don't think your frog visit, on this occasion, detracts from your design and once the back stitch of the brickwork is finished I think it will look lovely. If I were in the same situation with this ( I have been on one or two occasions with my own projects)I would just add a bit of the darker colour to the other side of the wall to balance them both , which won't draw your eye to one wall. It's a tough one, because we stitchers don't like froggy visits  :anotherfrog: but it would be awful to ruin the piece as well.

First of all, I always think "used the wrong colour" mistakes are less bad than "counted wrong" ones - all of your other stitches are in the right place and can stay!
Now, with this one... with it being on the wall close to all those overhanging bushes, I'd expect that side to be a bit more shadowy anyway... so if it was me I'd just leave it, and do the other wall as per the chart.

Barb, I would just leave it the way it is. It looks just fine. I can't tell that it isn't the color it is "supposed" to be. By the way, it is a lovely design and you're doing beautiful work.

TBH, I think it looks great as it is and I actually prefer the shading you have on your version to the one on the original pic!

okay, thanks for your opinions, i shall leave it as I am doing. I also thought of the darker side/darker brick overhanging but never mentioned it so am glad someone did cause now i feel okay about that decsion!

What happened was, when i set up my kit, the pattern is in colour. So, i put the symbol on each cardboard bobbin and do it for all the stitches, cross stitch, half stitch ect in the colour that is printed on the chart and the number of threads for each stitch if it isn''t 2 and mark it HS for half stitch and BS for back stitch. On this occassion i made a mistake, coupled with my messy writing the v and tick looked the same.

I shall double check in future, i set up all my kits like this and when i finish, i liquid paper the sybol out and reuse the cardboard bobbins. Normally it works very well, this time however...lets blame the cat, she probably distracted me.

I'm glad you are not letting Mr Froggy jump in. This is your artwork and why should it be identical to thousands others in the world? This has your signature. My sofa is approx 24 feet from my spot at the dining room table. That's where and how I audition my work. I prop things up on the sofa and sit at the table and view. If I can't see the difference and like the overall effect it stays. If at that distance it shouts at me then the next course of action needs to be taken. At a very regular basis there is either quilting or a cross stitch project needing assessment. I had a few stitches, position, not shade, off in one of my birds, even from 10 feet away I couldn't tell so they stayed. Always remember we are doing ART and most art up close looks horrible.

I agree with the others---it looks fabulous and as Granny stated--it is Art and doesn't have to be exactly like everyone elses!! I looks fabulous!! I've done a few of those mistakes myself and often just leave it as is, just because I like it!! I'm also guilty of knowingly changes colors just to make it different!! Keep up the fabulous stitching! This is one lovely project

Like the otehr have said the stitches are in the right place they are just a different color so I think leaving it as is will not be a problem and like other have said it will be very individual. I change colors all the time so that mine does not look exactly like some one elses. It is unique!!!!!

Thanks, i am working on it now, just came to do a bit of internet trawling.

I could go into work at 830am ( i cant take my stitching!) and sit and do crap paperwork someone else can do or I can go in at 1030am, stitch until then and see my one and only patient for the day at 11am and be home by midday...decsions decsions.. :thinks:

Either way I am going to get paid the same flat rate.

personally :ratherbe:

I love the work Barb and by the time you get the back stitching in you won't even notice the difference. So glad you decided to leave it.

Hope the rest goes well.

Just have to say, although you've already decided to go with it anyway. That I agree and actually prefer your version. I'm glad you're going to stick with it as it is.
