Dimensions 'Napping Kitten' - Finished and framed

Picture is for my youngest grandson. He chose it himself, and I'm going to adapt it a little to make the face colour pattern closer to his cat.

It's on 18ct aida, using Dimensions own threads, and the chart is coloured. It's the first time I've used a coloured chart and, although it is easier inasmuch as you don't mistake the symbols, it is also annoying as the colours don't match the pic! AND you have to get a distinctly differently coloured pen to mark off the chart. I'd like it better if it was only the backstitching that was coloured. Am I a moaner and a complainer? YES!!

The above is two evenings work whilst watching tv.

I've decided that although aida makes for neater stitches, I prefer linen!

Great progress for 2 evenings of stitching! Love the design and really can relate to you on dimensions charts---I have done a couple of them and am not a big fan at all on their color charts. I totally agree with you on the linen or evenweave over aida--that's why I almost always tend to look for charts over kits.
Can't wait to see your next update

:applesauce: You're doing really great on your project! I do mostly Dimensions designs, and I really prefer the colored charts over the black and white ones. It might be because that is what I am the most used to working off of. I just use a regular number 2 pencil to shade in what I've done.

Thats quite a few stitches for 2 evenings, wish I could stitch that fast !! :applesauce: Its a really cute design :)
I don't really have a preferance to charts, I've worked with both. But mostly I make a copy of the chart (usually a black and white copy) I'm working on so I can cross off in pencil.

Great progress :applesauce: I'm with you on the black and white charts. I definitely find symbols easier to cope with. For a new twist on aida, you could always try the fabric I'm currently using - an 18ct aida made purely from linen. It's an interesting half way house, though i think I still prefer evenweaves.

Lovely design and you have made a good start. I made something similar for my granddaughter and it has pride of place in her bedroom.

Sorry not to have posted progress pics, but here's one now - more than half done:

Image

As you will see if you look at the design pic in my first post in this thread, I have adapted the face to be closer in pattern to my grandson's cat. I'm not sure if it will work well with the backstitching, though - time will tell!

I also made a mistake by using the wrong thread on quite a large area of the tree branch, and it was pretty impossible to remove all of it without having to take out a lot of other colours as well, so I left the most difficult area. I'm going to use the wrong colour on another part of the tree as well, to try to make it look less like a mistake! Trouble was, both colours are in blue on the chart and have a similar feature - but I should have paid more attention!

BTW - the red blob will be a ladybird.
