I am just so annoyed because I heard from a friend at work yesterday that people at work have been making fun of me behind my back because I cross stitch!
I don't generally tell people about it much as I thought I would get this reaction but I told a few work mates I thought I could trust and they pretended to be all interested and then went and made fun behind my back!!
I hate two faced people!! They probably don't even know what cross stitch is!!
Just wanted to share my annoyance with you!

I'm sorry they are being like that. Just because you have something more in you life than they do, most likely.

They're the idiots - don't they know all the trendy young things in Hollywood are into needlecrafts? They all knit and stitch and sew!

I'd be tempted to stitch a subversive sampler to display at work that said "I stitch to sublimate my rage" and get the wind up them.

There is no accounting for the ignorance of some people. I know that it is hard to do but the best bet is to smile sweetly and say things such as the fact that it is your artistic outlet and that if people have nothing interesting in they lives they tend to be critical of those that do.

I had that response a couple of years ago. It encouraged other stitchers to bring in their works and we used to stitch together at lunch.

Precisely my thoughts.
They need to grow up.

I don't think it's the stitching.. Some people are so low about themselves that they have to find things to point out about others in hopes they can elevate themselves a bit.. If it wasn't cross-stitch it would have been something else... I would be hurt too, but then again you now know who your friends are....

What a bunch of ignorant people they are!

They probably make fun because they haven't got a clue about cross stitch and probably don't even have any hobbies themselves. Maybe they're the sort that like going out and getting drunk every night and if others aren't doing the same as they are, they think others are boring.

Don't let them put you off. It's their loss if they're not interested.

I agree with all of the above.
We are not worse people because of our hobby - on the contrary. You shouldn't pay attention to those laughing at you - but I know, it's easier said than done.

At least with your spare time ur making pieces of art that bring happiness, that's a whole lot better than what they do with theirs x Enjoy ur stitching

Sorry your cross stitching is something to make fun of to those people 17 years ago I let hurtful remarks about my stitching stop me from it for over a year. I just thought if it seems such a waste of time to others, maybe I just wouldn't do it anymore. It still bothers me when I think of the remarks, but I'm so glad I got back into it again and am still going strong. Just consider the source

Some people just are so stupid. Don't let them bother you--stitching is a great form of relaxation and the end result is something nice. Sending a few to you

Do a sampler to hang up saying " I,m a clever stitcher, are you?"

There's those who stitch ... and those that 'don't say very nice things'.
Such an unkind thing to do to a friend, but at least you know you're in the first category.
Head up and ignore them, they're the ones with the problem.

Bet you're glad you took some stitching.

People who have nothing better to do then put others down are sad people that have no true talent of their own. Don't even bother with them they are the ones that should be ashamed. Your work is beautiful and we love to see it.

Put it down to thier ignorance Vanessa, they are not worth getting upset over. Carry with your hobby and enjoy it.

Thanks everyone. I knew you would understand. They are just interested in getting drunk so I know they are the ones with the problem. I will just keep my cross stitching to myself and you guys
