Me too Rose, I learnt that trick mending my horses rugs he liked tearing every day, I used to have to sit in a field stitching!!
Why are we not supposed to lick thread to thread it?

Re: Confessions of a Cross Stitcher
Hi Nikki,
The answer I got to that one is that the digestive juices in your spit aren't good in the long run for your masterpiece. But the way I look at it: I wash all mine once I'm done (in orvus) so, all my spit gets washed out.

Re: Confessions of a Cross Stitcher
I don't care about the back either.
And yes. I have been known to leave mistakes if I have used a slightly wrong shade and it doesnt notice.
I have even been known to stitch over a wrong colour
It doesn't matter even if I change designs to suit me as I am usually the only person that ever sees them that knows why the original is like. I don't know any stitchers apart from my forum friends.

Re: Confessions of a Cross Stitcher
I love the replies. They make me feel normal. I thought I was weird with the things I do. The back of my work looks like a 3 y/o drew all over it. I also mark the date I start and finish a project, but only so I can figure out how many I can do in a year. I have made up stitches to mask the mistakes. NO ONE is allowed to come near my projects because I don't like to wash them afterwards so everything has to be kept super clean, meaning I wash my hands a billion times a day. Lol

Re: Confessions of a Cross Stitcher
Nope, no fractional stitches and no backstitching, no metallics, no beads. That's why I like them lol!LadyS wrote:I've seen it, for sure. Maybe I'll get one one day, except I have a few BAPs kited up and two on the go, so I can't really get more of these for the time being. I do like that HAEDs don't have blending. Does SQ do fractional stitches?

After reading these I don't feel so alone
1. I also lick my threads; cannot get a handle of needle threaders.
2. Couldn't care less what the back of my work looks like if no-one is going to be able to see it.
3. I generally don't take my work out of hoops whilst working on them unless I was planning a break for a week, but that will never happen because i HAVE to stitch every day.
4. Every day day at work i fantasize about sitting at home stitching the day away.
5. I get annoyed when visitors come over in the evening as it cuts into my stitchy time.
6. i would rather stay home and stitch then go out and socialise, lucky for me my OH is a homebody too.

Re: Confessions of a Cross Stitcher
Yeah, this is kind of embarrassing, but
1) I just now figured out what the loop method is!
2) I still use knots to start and end a thread...(which leads into)
3) I don't care what the back looks like
4) I cannot leave a stitch in if I know that it is incorrect or the wrong color. It would bug me to just know it was there and not the exact right shade
5) I leave projects on Q-snaps and hoops when I'm not working on them
I'm sure there are more, and I'm not going to even go into my stash addiction!!

I love all of this
I've recently started stitching my own designs and the back is a right old mess. I sometimes cheat if I mess up stitch count and I thought I was a bit doing stitching as I thought it had to be perfection......yay!! I'm normal after all!!

I also read somewhere that it was so one wouldn't get lipstick on the thread. Since I don't wear the stuff (just lip balm), I always lick! Never heard about the saliva before.Fizzbw wrote:Why are we not supposed to lick thread to thread it?
I see so many of my confessions already listed! But the biggest one I would add...
- I've seriously considered having my on-line stash purchases sent to my Dad's address just so I wouldn't get "The Look" from dear DH when he brings in the mail for bringing more stuff into the house (as I said, it's small!).

Re: Confessions of a Cross Stitcher
This thread really shows I'm with like minded people!!!
I lick the end of my threads too..
My backs are horrendous
My husband and kids know that if I don't have an hour of peace and quiet in the morning to drink my coffee and browse the web and a few hours in the evening to stitch I am one mean momma.... Stitching keeps me calm I'm ok if I miss one stitch session (I usually get a small one in the afternoon and then one in the evening) I'm ok.. but if I miss both in a day I am pretty cranky.
I have declined invites out to places because I'd rather be home stitching. I avoid doing evening Muay Thai classes because it cuts into my stitch time..

Oh, yes. Some of my 28 size needles are bent too and I'm still using them. They work just fine so half the time I don't even notice it!

A long time ago, I read that if you lick threads to get them through the needle, and the project isn't washed after finishing, the dried saliva will eventually cause noticeable discolouration.
I wish I could remember where I read that.
I have a framed piece that was done about eight years ago and it was not washed. It's still fine. So, if it's true, then I guess it takes years.
I use a threader these days.

Yes! Me too! I am tense if a few days go by without any stitchy time.
I too am loving these confessions.. I can identify with items from most posts.

Re: Confessions of a Cross Stitcher
I also love these confessions. I really thought I was the only one who kept projects in hoops and or q snaps. I've never had a problem with it and I know that at least one afghan had the hoop in it for 6 months when I just stopped stitching (in the days when I obeyed the 1 project at a time law) and put it up with the hoop. I don't know if I would have confessed that before.

Re: Confessions of a Cross Stitcher
I'm the same. I left my Starry Night in q-snaps for 18 months ( ), through most of my pregnancy (got too hot to have all that fabric sitting on me) and until very recently. When I finally remembered, I took it out and it looked fine. Not a mark. I don't think you could leave it in a wooden hoop for that long, but the snaps were fine AND were still holding tension!rcperryls wrote:I also love these confessions. I think I will just say "Ditto!" to all the previous confessions
lick my thread, check, leave project in hoop, check, mostly don't care about the back of my project, check, little white lies on how much I spend on stash, check, oh the list can go on and on and on

Re: Confessions of a Cross Stitcher
Oh, I have more that nobody's mentioned.
1. I try to keep close to a full compliment of DMC floss outside the ones I've used to kit projects up. This way I always have a color handy if I run out late at night after the stores have closed. The more popular colors in multiple kits I usually have duplicates.
2. I refused to go to a unit potluck one time at work because I wanted to stitch at my desk instead even though I brought some food. It helps calm me and I REALLY needed calming that day.
3. I have several very long Wish Lists on many cross stitch sites I frequently visit. And I look at them often.
4. I have to have a double set of every hoop/qsnap/scroll rod that I have. If my 6" hoop is busy with a project but I want to start another one using that same size then I have one ready. Heaven help me if I want to start a third one.

Hang on a second wrt to licking, but we only lick the very end of the thread which never gets sewn into the fabric? Unless people are running the whole length through their mouths.....

1. I don't really care about my backs, but it seems they have gotten neater over time.
2. My fiancé framed a piece for me and I felt like I was having a mini heart attack. Don't know how I could send something to get framed.
3. I lick my threads to thread the needle.
4. A good 90-95% of HAED's are not my taste. I really dislike dragons, fairies, etc...
5. If I come across a mistake I stop everything and examine my work over and over and over again to try and find the mistake and see if I can just work around it.
6. I leave my works in plastic hoops for months at a time.
7. I'm addicted to this forum.
8. I think I restrain myself very harshly and wont buy something unless I have it planned when I'm going to use it or for who.

Re: Confessions of a Cross Stitcher
I have never correctly finished a CX as it should be I miss count but it still look's ok.
I will only use Gold Needles.
I will only use DMC.
I limit myself to two CX magazines a month.
I only do one project at a time (well usually)
