Hello
Hello,
I'm new to this forum and fairly new to cross stitching.
I just wondered does any one have any advice for stitching large blocks of one colour?
I have undertaken a huge (To me project) which is 48500 stitches of which 10341 is one colour and about 18000 stitches is another colour.
Thank you in advance

Re: Hello
Hello and welcome to the forum from South Carolina! And welcome to cross stitching. Sounds like you have tackled a fairly large project. One way to deal with large color blocks is to vary the stitching with other sections of the chart so that you don't get bored. I find that large blocks of colors are good to stitch when I'm watching a tv show which requires more attention than the usual comedy or drama, like dance contests, talent contests or complicated stories. The key is making sure if there are any odd stitches stuck in the middle of a large black that you don't miss them. I hope that you will show us pictures of your stitching. We love pictures!

Re: Hello
Thank you for the advice I've been trying to keep up with the pattern as stitching to a deadline. I'll definitely try doing what you suggest

Re: Hello
Hi Antonia and Welcome from me too. I seldom do very large projects and try not to do one with large blocks of 1 colour. You have the added problem of stitching to a deadline too.
I can only suggest the same as Carole, when it gets too much work on a bit with another colour. If there was no deadline to stitch too then you could perhaps do something small and colourful in between whiles.
Just remember 1 stitch at a time gets the job done.

Re: Hello
Hello and welcome from me too.
The only thing I woyld add for going large blocks of colour is to feather your changes of direction. By that I mean if you are not stitching the whole width of the colour in one go don't always switch to work back the way at the same point as this can leave a visible line in the finished piece, just staggering the changes by a stitch or two can make all the difference to the finished piece.
I look forward to seeing pictures of your WIP.

Re: Hello
Hello and welcome to the forum! I second Purple Patsy's advice. Even staggering each row by just one or two stitches can help avoid getting a vertical line in the finished design. If you have gotten a line already, sometimes they become less noticeable after washing or pressing. Like everyone else, I'm looking forward to seeing pictures!

This is my project which I have been seeking advice for as you can probably tell the large areas of one colour which the letters haven't been too bad.
There are a few stitches missing on the faces but I'll be coming back to them
