Looking forward to watching your progress on this one. It will be beautiful when its finished. What is the fabric that it calls for 5 strands of thread? Is that just for the blue?

Carole it is an 18ct white aida and yes it seems as if it is just for the blue - which is a bright royal blue. I won't be continuing with 4 threads that is for sure.

Re: Squirrel's Stitching 2017/18 New Start 16/8/17
Well I had a 'play' this morning trying out stitching with 4 threads, then 3 threads and neither of them worked very well on the 18ct and were very slow - which I don't have time for.
Then I had a brainwave and went to check if I had the same colour in actual DMC. I did, only a very small amount and no backup however I did a few stitches with DMC and with the thread supplied and Dimensions thread covered if better with 2 strands so I am sticking with the thread supplied using 2 strands.
Had a further look at the rest of the upper design chart and thought I wonder what all the hundreds of red dots are. about 560 French knots!!!!!!
4 rows of 140 plus odd snowflakes through our the blues. It is all in the upper border and either side of where the name will go.
I also discovered why I seldom stitch on white, especially if I am out on the balcony,. The sun shining on it makes it very hard to see. Going to be a challenge this one I can see that for sure. Oh well it is in a good cause. My SIL left for NZ this morning to be with the birthday 'girls (his daughter and GD) ' for a few days. Pictures when I have done a bit more than 24 stitches.

I looked at the photo again and can see all the snowflakes. They do look very effective in the blue but I can't see all the red dots.
I am glad that you established that two threads will cover well, with the original thread. You are good to go now
Regarding the brightness of the white, I find that putting a dark cloth on my lap helps.
Looking forward to your update...

Re: Squirrel's Stitching 2017/18 Update 23/8/17
You guessed it I boobed big time. I was almost at the end of the top 7 row fancy border and looked along and saw I had 2 x 10 stitches wide grids going to be empty, what the heck was wrong.
Just me, I started it right at the edge of the gridding forgetting that those 5 stitches were for the heel of the Stocking and not needed up top. Just after the first 10 st block I then missed out a whole block of stitching before going onto the next bit which has a fancy bit in it. So just another block to finish frogging and I will restart this dratted Stocking again.
The joys of trying to do stitching in a hurry, it don't work with old heads.

Sally, cheer up! Once you have done all the frogging, you will be more attentive to the very last stitch on the project, believe me.
Personally I never use the term "old heads", I call this phenomenon "how on earth could this happen?" as I have hardly stitched a project without frogging at the very start since my green years.
Looking forward to your updates. Happy stitching!

Re: Squirrel's Stitching 2017/18 Update 23/8/17
I agree that a frogless project is probably like a unicorn - wouldn't it be nice to see one ? Even so it's annoying when it happens, and it's no wonder you feel frustrated. Here's hoping that you've now got all the frogging done on this project and the rest will go smoothly!

How annoying!!!!
Thinking of it, I don't think that I have ever achieved a frogless project, either.
Well, you know now about the space left for the heel!
New start, then. Looking forward to seeing the beginning of this lovely project

Re: Squirrel's Stitching 2017/18 Update 23/8/17
Is there such a thing as a frogless project???? I don't think I have ever encountered one. If it isn't miscounting, then its pulling the wrong color for a symbol (which happens not just when symbols are close but also when I am sure I know what color a symbol calls for without checking the color/symbol key to double check.

All ready to restart this morning, once I find my desk lamp. We actually have lots of cloud and even some light rain occasionally but rather murky inside so off to unearth that lamp.

Perhaps they came out to play in the rain and were tempted to get into mischief first!!

Well they can just go back where they came from or we will have to have a frogs legs fry up.

Here is part of the top border. I have a couple or other urgent mending things to see to tomorrow so rather than wait until I have completed the double row of the yellow/green and the next red row here is the partially completed top border.
Thanks for looking.

Re: Squirrel's Stitching Update 8/9/17 Pics.
Here is the latest on the Stocking with Brooklyn's name finally done. What a performance to get the 4 different red/orange shades into it and then to do that ridiculous holly cluster.
Can someone tell me why suddenly any chart for holly berries and leaves, the leaves are totally unrecognisable on their own? I've recently done 2 other little projects and the leaves were nothing like holly leaves.
Thanks for looking.
