Indeed we did! Happy New Year!!
Thank goodness there are some magical Cleaning Elves to get rid of all that mess we left behind!
Streamers, crackers (edible and paper!!) and all those peanut and pistachio shell!
Then they did the washing up and left the place Clean and Sparkling.

I saw some daffodils in flower today ( ) I picked them and put them in a vase on the small table in the corner.

Awww. They are lovely.
I saw one -- a little Tête á Tête variety -- in bloom up here (!) on the 30th, growing out of what was a hay bale that a farmer had planted up last year and left by the side of the road. (Very effective as a rather large planter, btw.)

Yes, it did rather shine out on a gloomy day, but desperately out of place and time!

I've only just started using an electric kettle!!
One of our forsythias has had a couple of flowers on and there's a pink flower out in the garden on a plant with big leaves...we call it the elephant ear plant.
It's raining again today....I'm in here for a and that last piece of Black Bun!

Re: 2018 Stash & Grab
Drinks are on me today; I have a double celebration!
First, I’m off the antidepressants and ... I feel FINE!!!!!!!! I actually came off them accidentally when I ran out and my new prescription took a little longer than normal to arrive at the chemist. Since I felt okay going without them, I decided to give it a few more days to see how I felt, knowing that I now have the new box of tablets if I need them. That was two weeks ago and despite the cold, dark January days, I’m still feeling positive. I’ve even recently had the urge to learn a new language and take up horse riding again, which I think is evidence that I’m leaving the black dog behind.
And talking of horse riding, that’s my second celebration. In my lesson yesterday, I finally CANTERED!!!!! This is a big milestone for me as I’ve been too afraid to canter in the past and it’s been my goal for a long time!
So ... let me know who’s having what and I’ll go to the bar.

Tally ho! Well done you! It's strange how fast a canter feels. Must be all that open air with no "protective" box around you.
Your GP is going to have conniptions when s/he discovers you've taken yourself off your meds cold turkey like that. Don't misunderstand: I am so pleased that you feel well and energised, but nevertheless be gentle with yourself in the meantime, ok?

Well done! You sound very positive...but Serinde does have a point. Coming off antidepressants is a big step forward but you should tell your GP what you have done and also how Positive you feel about it.
When I had my Highland Pony I used to take him to the Riding for the Disabled to let disabled children ride him. The look on their faces when 'on board' was something I shall never forget.
I can imagine your delight in making that move to start riding again. I also remember the thrill and the freedom of out riding, solo and in a group with friends. Exhilarating and sometimes a wee bit scary...especially when out with my daughter!!
So! As for celebrations I'll have a nice glass (or two) of
See you there!!

Re: 2018 Stash & Grab
Congratulations on throwing the black dog off.
As for riding horses. They always worry me, as they have a brain and are not afraid to use it. Much prefer the way predator species think than prey species like cows/horses.
I have ridden a horse twice, the first time a cousins horse decided to gallop within 50 yards of me getting on and starting to walk it. I had a choice of falling off in a hedge or on the grass, and chose the grass. Was exciting, but motorbikes are faster and more under the rider's control.
Regards,
Richard.

I agree with both ladies and am sooo happy to hear how good you are feeling. The pride comes right through. I think the only horses I've ever ridden were the ponies at the amusement park when I was very young. For me doing anything on a horse except trying not to fall off is an accomplishment. Keep us updated on your progress. I expect there are stages that you go through as you get comfortable with each one?

Re: 2018 Stash & Grab
Possibly, but I’ve actually been on a low dose of a mild antidepressant so I don’t think I will have any problems. I know the signs of when the black dog’s lurking (and he’s not around at the moment ) and I have some very good friends keeping an eye on me on a daily basis. I’m learning to be kind and gentle with myself too, which is helping.Serinde wrote:Your GP is going to have conniptions
As for the horses, I totally understand why some people aren’t too keen on them. They don’t know their own size and strength, and that can be very daunting. I recently started volunteering for my local Riding for the Disabled group and it was seeing those kids on the ponies that gave me the confidence to canter. It’s also helping with my recovery from depression, spending half a day each week outside in a friendly and fun environment with people whose problems are far, far worse than mine.

It is not easy to go and socialize sometimes. Cross stitch and riding sound like a good combination to me ( + this forum, of course!)
