How did I miss this post? Fabulous work Serinde really beautiful!Serinde wrote:I can't believe I've not posted on this thread since December...!
Well here is Winter Loch finished. To recap: a Mary Hickmott design, on ice blue 16-ct aida using full and half cross stitches. Still to be framed, and I noticed one of the little half-stitches has caught on something and needs repaired. Overall, I'm pleased with it.

That is amazing! Well done.

Now, I don't want you to think I've only been gardening... This is the start of Blackwork Journey's "Sublime Stitches" by Elizabeth Almond (most of pages 1-3). I downloaded it as a freebie (and it's still available), although there is also a (I expect) cleaned up and edited version available for money. There are some wonderful patterns here, but not necessarily for beginners. On several, I had to really think hard to figure out the 'pathways' for the stitches. It's been fun. And since this is obviously a work in progress for the designer, I've taken a few liberties with colours, too. Seems fair.

Lovely motifs and patterns, and I like the muted colour scheme with the black - is it a variegated thread?

Yes, it is. Various Coloris numbers, particularly 4515, but lots of others, too.Mabel Figworthy wrote:Lovely motifs and patterns, and I like the muted colour scheme with the black - is it a variegated thread?

I LOVE IT Serinde and oh so beautifully stitched too. It is good to give the old brain a bit of a workout occasionally.

That's wonderful!
I bought the whole Colouris range recently and I'm stitching a blackwork butterfly in it! I'm still at the early learning stage with blackwork.
I've also bought Mary Hickmotts Blackwork flowers especially to use the new range.

I agree completely. I have never tried blackwork, despite having a number of charts because I do love the designs. Looking forward to your updates.Squirrel wrote:I LOVE IT Serinde and oh so beautifully stitched too. It is good to give the old brain a bit of a workout occasionally.

Mary's designs will look wonderful in a combination of the Coloris blends. One thing I've learned from the Sublime Stitches sampler is how useful combining colours to make up a design can be. So, I've just finished one that is flowers: stems in black, but the 'fruit' is done in 4519, so some of it is ripe (red) and some not (green-ish) Very effective.wendywombat wrote: I bought the whole Colouris range recently and I'm stitching a blackwork butterfly in it! Oh this is lovely.
The coloris threads are working out so well, some muted so not so muted and the overall effect is simply perfect in my humble little opinion, none of it is dominating and drawing the eye, it's working so well as a whole.
Hmm, I have a couple of Red Blackwork sampler kits I was given a few Christmases ago and I'm now thinking the gently changing Coloris would be better than the solid dark red
I love it.

Sorry I've not been around much lately, life and work... you know how it is.
Here is more Sublime Stitches, almost all of pp 4-6. I'm really enjoying stitching this, and I can see how the motifs will be useful. I only hope I remember how some of the more complex ones are stitched!! This will also have beads attached, once all the stitching is done, so will be even blingy-er.

Serinde, this is absolutely beautiful, everything about it is sublime the soft gentle shades, all the useful motifs, and it is so expertly stitched
I love everything about this piece, and can't wait to see it all unrolled.
