It snowed last night -- not a lot; just enough to cool the toes and make the place look very festive.
Re: 2023 Quick Daily Posts
It stopped raining last night but someone forgot to tell the sun it could come out.

Re: 2023 Quick Daily Posts
Ho hum. Back to work and all the joy that entails. I think in Kent we've had an unusually low amount of rain today, only about half an inch (12mm). In the last 2 weeks the rain has filled a 14" deep bucket, so we've had around 12" (or 6 normal months worth) of rain. Beginning to feel as if Devon weather has, after moving away 34 years ago, finally found where I live.

Richard

Oh, dear! Perhaps, however, "Devon" has decided it wants an unexpected winter hols in the West of Scotland, where it's been very wet indeed. And that was before it really rains (and blows) in January... it should feel right at home.

Grey here in the Borders and a bit blowy..
But... today is the restart of the Craft group afternoon
My neighbour popped around yesterday and she wants to come along and see, so that's another convert to crafting!

Re: 2023 Quick Daily Posts
Great, starting again and with a new member, what could be better?
Our embroidery group starts again next Monday, but unfortunately I'll have to leave half-way through for a first physio appointment. I could really do with treatment (shoulders) but this physiotherapist only comes to our surgery on Monday afternoons, exactly when our group is We'll see what happens.

Hope it all goes well, Mabel.
And that's great news about a potential new member, WW! The more the merrier.
I've spent most of the day getting ducks in a row for the Guild next Saturday, so feel very virtuous.

How many Ducks make a row??
That is a question I have always wanted to ask. I know someone in this group has the answer.

Re: 2023 Quick Daily Posts
Mathematically a line is defined by 2 points.
Personally I feel that it should be 4. That means 2 ducks have voluntarily placed themselves on the line between the end two ducks. A single duck in the middle could be chance, but two in the middle is too many to really be chance and shows deliberation.
Regards,
Richard.

Re: 2023 Quick Daily Posts
I am feeling mean. Skye needs her nails cut. There is no way I can do it. The store won’t do it without proof of rabies vaccine, which she’s about due for anyway. So, I found a vet, and I’ve booked an appointment to get a well check-up, rabies shot, and nails clipped.
She’s just starting to settle in somewhat, and I’m going to traumatized her.
And I feel worse because, with my kids, after a shot I could cuddle and comfort them….but Skye still won’t let me do that.

Re: 2023 Quick Daily Posts
Very silly question:
Why does a cat need their nails cut?
We have never once had any of our cats' nails trimmed. Not ever.
We have had 11 cats over 32 years. When the cat has a scratching tree and time to run outside there doesn't seem to be a scratching problem. OK, one, Jack, did claw the corner of our sofa, but he was a cat, he did things like that. Generally he kept his claws in order by chewing the claw sheaths off.
We had a cat (my avatar Albert), who never pulled the claw sheaths off, just allowed them to accumulate on his claw. To expose the sharp point he chewed them, making a fuzzy end to his claw - which was a brilliant biome for all sorts of bacteriological warfare bugs, and anything he scratched festered. That, as far as he was concerned, was perfect. He was the BOSS CAT, and everything was dirt beneath his paws...

Richard

Re: 2023 Quick Daily Posts
I'm with you Richard. None of our cats (Siamese) needed their nails trimmed. They just rather violently pulled the sheaths off to reveal the next layer of sharpness. But they were outdoor cats and would try to chase the squirrels up into the trees, only to decide half way up that they'd made their point...
Re: 2023 Quick Daily Posts
Indoor cats don’t usually do enough to trim their own nails. We did buy a scratching pole, but she just uses it to scratch her back. Right now, she gets her nails caught in things, can’t get them out, and panics. Over time, a cat can lose it’s ability to retract them if they are to long, and the nails can grow into the footpad causing pain and infections.
Re: 2023 Quick Daily Posts
The cat I had in California, Kitty, was an indoor cat and she would not let me trim her nails so I always had to take her to the vet to have it done. Jackson (you all have heard about my Jackson) doesn’t mind at all when I trim his nails, which I do when they become like needles when he’s kneading on me or when he gets stuck on his scratching toy. He’s also an indoor cat. In fact, my city has a leash law for cats the same as for dogs, so it’s unusual to see a cat outside alone. Now and then, however, my doorbell camera catches a cat walking across my porch…also raccoons, bunnies, foxes, and skunks. Several years ago we had a mountain lion in the neighborhood….that cat was exempt from the leash law.
