Makes sense to me. Problem is, I'll now always see the poor dog... Munch made variations on this theme. I wonder if he improved either his human or his dog?

Ha. I remember Crisco. Wouldn't use it now for toffee (metaphorically speaking): hydrogenated cottonseed oil. One of the earliest forms of ultra-processing.

DH had an elderly friend many years ago who used to put the dirty dishes on the floor for the dog to lick "clean". Then put them back in the cupboard. Needless to say, never had a meal there...

Oh I love that picture!!
That must have been a very small dog or a very large dishwasher!
I had a friend who had a 'mastiff' type dog with droopy jowls which dribbled. She would wipe the dog's face with the towel used to dry dishes!!
I never had coffee or tea in her house.

I will admit that I often let the cats finish licking stuff off my plate or would use a "real plate' if I was giving them "people food". Laverne in particular in later years was convinced the food on my plate was better than even the food I took from my plate and she would see me putting it in a plate for her. I ALWAYS too the plate straight to the dishwasher. Rosey doesn't like people food (she hasn't had much) so no problems there.

With me, read 'Some days it has zero caterpillars' for 'Most Days it has zero caterpillars'.
As for cats & plates... Well, our cats used to have cat bowls, but for some reason they always waste the bits in the bottom.
We have a crockery set that has octagonal plates in 6.25, 7.75 and 10" sizes & 6" saucers (https://www.replaceyourplates.co.uk/pro ... age-white/ and all pattern variations using this base such as Sonata, Katrina, Garden Trellis, Eternal Beau, Eternal Belle, Fresh Fruits etc). We never use the saucers or 6.25" plates (too small) and found that they were flat enough that the cats didn't waste the bits in the bottom (instead shovelled the food off the side & refuse to eat it until put back on the plate).
So.. over the years we've moved to the point where the cats have the same crockery as we do. We don't have a dish washer (other than me), but we do wash the cat crockery in a different sink.
Regards,
Richard.

Re: 2023 The Smile for Today is...
Listening to Radio 4 yesterday I heard that there is a proposal to do Dog poo bags in festive colours: This would mean that the dog poo tree we all know (and probably do not love ) on the way into our favourite walking park can get in the festive spirit.

I could say that particular suggestion is the very definition of consumerism in a neoliberal economic regime. But I'd be called a grinch.

I'm not even going to think about those poo bags.
Richard, thank you very much for that tiger clip, it afforded DH and me great amusement to counteract the news of the day.

Re: 2023 The Smile for Today is...
I think it was mentioned on one of the comedy shows saying the problem is when people bring their dogs home from the walk they do not know which bag is theirs so leave them and if they did them in festive colours they would look like baubles and the owners might take them home.
I personally the "poo tree" should be a good indication to the local council that a bin is needed there .

Re: 2023 The Smile for Today is...
Glad you liked the Tiger Clip Mabel.
Poo bags... I'm reminded of something I heard on the radio once, 'From Our Own Correspondent' I think on Radio 4. At the time Kenya was thinking of banning plastic carrier bags and the correspondent wasn't unhappy about the idea. The local name for a carrier bag was 'Flying Toilet'. With many houses having no running water, the toilet waste was put in a bag, and then disposed of from the window of a moving car. The thought is mind boggling.

Richard
