Stolen design

Post by Offe »

I thought cyberstitchers.com was a good site, but then I came across a design that I used to have on my web page (for 10 years). It wasn't one of my designs, but my boyfriend's (at the time) and he sure does not call himself "Stitch Witch".

It is just the tiniest chart, but it still makes me upset that someone would steal a designs and publish it as their own. It is not all that hard to come up with some designs of your own.

Just venting, sorry!

OMGs! That's awful - you should contact them about it as they should take it down or at least give credit to the actual designer. Either way, this "Stitch Witch" needs to be upbraided at the very least! Stitch Witch appears to have uploaded quite a few designs - I wonder how many others are incorrectly attributed to them instead of the rightful designers?

Definitely report it -- this is just the sort of thing that makes designers give up! And whether it's small or big doesn't matter, it's wrong whatever the size. You (on your boyfriend's behalf) have every right to be angry about this.

This sort of thing should always be reported, it is so unfair when designs are plagiarised in this way :x

Report it. I can think of at least one designer who has stopped producing due to her having her work ripped of.

Be certain it wasn't a design that came out of an auto program (computer) first because that could explain it innocently but otherwise absolutely report it. And maybe give stitch witch a copy of I think it's Raven's? Research - sorry I'm hopeless with names, I mean no offence. It is possible stitch witch doesn't really understand how bad a problem stealing designs is - in many cultures the concept of ownership is not as great as others.

This is the kind of thing that makes us all lose out an some wonderful designs. Why would a person want to produce something when there are others out there that want to take the credit and profit off of them.

Some people think that copyright is a joke and sharing what is not there doesn't hurt anyone. It does.

Mable is right small or large it is not right.

Let us know what happens won't you. It's so unfair to take someone else's design and try to pass it off as your own. :( Hope it get's sorted.

I got a reply from cyberstitchers.com. The designer published the pattern believing that it was her own design and now she has asked cyberstitchers.com to remove it from the site.

I feel much better, knowing that it was not on purpose.

Maybe I'm not reading this properly...but wouldn't you know if the design you just published was one you created or not? I can understand a brief mishap of uploading an incorrect file, but if it was listed on their site...chances are that wasn't the case. I think she used that as a quick excuse.
