Re: do you prefer cute or real subjects?

I think owls look gorgeous, not seen one in the wild, only some that live on preserves/ in zoos because they've been injured. I think I would stitch realistic ones if doing a big project because all that details working together would look so good, and I'd do cartoony ones for a book mark or as ...

Re: Finished Uni for the year!

Thanks Sally and Niki. I'm looking forward to getting my camera out again, and being able to focus on my music lessons. I've been getting voice lessons for nearly a month now, and it's been really fun. Hopefully I can have more than snatched moments of practice. That and it's time to start ...

Finished Uni for the year!

Finally! It got so hectic at the end, I didn't have time to do anything but study. Or anytime I did stitch, there was this evil little voice in my head saying 'You're procrastinating, you should be studying,' and so on, which is not very fun. This last week was 'EVERYTHING IS DUE' week and I think I ...

Re: UT Bushfires in NSW UPDATED 24/10/13

Apparently the army have now accepted responsibility for starting the mine fire, but have not yet said anything about compensation. This has obviously made some of the people who have lost their homes rather angry. They have said there will be a full investigation and the NSW police will be looking ...

Re: OT - Rant about people who have no idea!

My grandma who taught me cross stitch used to crochet and knit before her arthritis got worse, and I have some beautiful wool jumpers (sweaters) that luckily as the oldest I still fit into. She used to make them for my aunt, uncle, and cousins as well, but she stopped because my aunt is a snob and ...

Re: You've converted me...

I got some q snaps years ago for my applique and...I loathe them. They make my hands ache and they are so awkward to manage.

Ah well. Each to their own - as long as we can all stitch happily in our own way, that's the important bit! :)

And q-snap covers, you say? I might have to order some, I can ...

You've converted me...

...to q-snaps! I picked up an 8x8 from a craft shop in Sydney when I was visiting and loved it! My 11x11 from ebay just arrived this (Friday) afternoon, which is nice, because I've been stitching a bigger project on the 8x8 and the fabric was always getting in the way at the back. Woo!

Re: I've not been around much because....

She looks adorable! The stray kitten my housemate adopted has a lot of trouble with mites. When she trusts you enough, have her and the kittens checked out and treated if necessary. Also at this stage you should look into microchipping, that way if she ever gets lost, they can have an idea of where ...

Re: Birthday stash!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes! As for my housemate...let's just say he's doing a few extra chores this week and the next to make up for it. Very silly of him, to put it politely! I may have calmed myself with a glass of :wine: that night. :)

Birthday stash!

Feeling very lucky to have a family that remembers I love to stitch! No one else knows specifics about cross stitch, so I received $70 in gift cards to Lincraft, as well as a mini sewing box to store things in. I haven't filled the sewing box yet, but I have spent some of my Lincraft money! I have ...

Re: Weird question...can you safely add a scent to cross sti

Update:

So I stitched the gumleaves over the weekend, and today I bought a paintbrush and some eucalyptus oil. This one was clear, I don't know if they all are. So when I finished the stitching, I folded the edges behind the stitching (like folding a letter into 3) and sewed it shut at the top and ...

Weird question...can you safely add a scent to cross stitch?

So it sounds very strange, but at the moment I'm stitching a small Eucalyptus leaves pattern to send to my grandma on a card for her birthday. Anyone who has ever smelt Eucalyptus leaves knows they have a distinct lovely smell. I'm wondering if I can somehow include the scent without damaging the ...

Re: Needle size?

I did use a 28 until a very picky woman at my class took a bugs eye magnifier to some of my work and said she could tell I used too small a needle because the fibres of the thread had "roughed" up because the needle hadn't opened up the hold adequately for the thread to "float" through ... I couldn ...
