Over the last couple of very hot days down south in NSW several large bush fires have happened and most are still out of control. Over 100 homes lost, in various small communities/settlements with whole streets gone in some places.
Sadly 1 death has been reported. Over 2000 firefighters are working and reinforcements are going there from Victoria and Queensland as well as NZ Forest Service special teams.
Please send prayers/good vibes/etc to those affected.
I pray that none of our members down south are in the way of these destructive bush fires.

Thankfully I'm in Canberra, but if anyone is in the area and doing poorly, let us know, I'd be happy to send some comfort stash your way! Hope everyone is doing well.

We can actually see smoke from where the worst fires up in the North of NSW. The air here is smoky and there is some ash blowing around. The sky is grey with a red tinge and the sun is quite eerie, an orange ball in the sky. Latest reports are up to 200 homes gone, 2 firemen in the burns unit of a hospital and it won't be over any time soon. At the moment it's a bit cooler but the heat is supposed to be back over the weekend and worse is supposed to come before it gets better. I'm going to email one of our local on line stitching suppliers. When the Victorian fires were over a few years back, she organised a stash collection for anyone in the devastated area who wanted it. If she does the same this time I will send her a carton. I am having to cut my stash by about 3/4 because I am moving into an aged care home and won't be able to take it all with me. At the moment I am thanking my lucky stars that I am able to choose what I want to keep and haven't lost everything like so many people have in the fires.
Sending thoughts and prayers to all who are in danger from the fires. They can be so scarey. We don't get many in SC but Florida does and I have driven through some of those devistated areas. My sister lives in Los Angeles and has had to evacuate several times because fires have gotten close to her house. Fortunately it never has gotten closer than a few blocks, but it is a very frightening thing. Will keep that the weather changes soon and that it rains and brings some relief to the stricken areas.

You all take very good care of yourselves. No heroics. Wish I could send you some of our rain, as we don't particularly need it, and you obviously do. All I can send is best wishes and thoughts.
Prayers for all those whose homes and businesses are in danger, and for the heroic firefighters. We've had some tragic fires here in Colorado the last couple years and I know how it feels to see and read about the effects of the fires.

Thanks for the offer Sally, Unfortunately, Karen is in The Blue Mountains where some of the worst fires are so I don't expect to hear from her quickly as she may have had to evacuate. I'll let you know as soon as I hear from her. It's a bit cooler down here today so there is a lot of back burning going on, temperatures and wind are supposed to rise again later today and it doesn't look good for a few days yet.
Just been reading the latest news on the bush fires in NSW Blue Mountains area and the news is not good at all.
Over 60 fires still burning and another sparsely settled area is under evacuation; over 200 houses lost already and they are bracing for temperatures over 30 degrees celcius and strong winds over the next few days.
So many houses lost and lives turned upside down. At least 1 fire fighter has lost his own home whilst fighting other fires. So hard. Crews from all other states except the Northern Territory - which has troubles of its own due to drought are already on the ground and more going.
Many parts of Queensland are in drought conditions and a fire there could raze multiple thousands of acres of land.
I guess one could say that summer has arrived in full force on this side of Aussie.
The call for financial as well as donated goods has gone out in all churches in our area this morning, so I will head down to my craft cupboard and see what is there to make up some kits. There is a container going south on Tueday and we have half of it to fill which won't be a problem I am sure. To be without ones stitching stash is a horror not to be thought of. I always keep a few small cover kits in my "fire bag"which is always packed and handy to grab.

So tragic, they are saying it's the worst it's ever been, and early too. My heart goes out to all the families who have lost everything...Unimaginable.
Fingers crossed and best wishes - Wednesday is apparently the day they are expecting it to get really bad (based on predictions of weather and firefront movement).
The smoke is bad but a bit of smoke is nothing compared to the lost homes and lost life - it's the most to hope that no one else is hurt.
