Candles and Stitching

Post by nettie »

No I don't intend burning my projects!

Does anyone burn candles while they stitch. I have always avoided this as concerned about he scent gettine into the fabric. I have this fabulous smelling christmas candle though and I am itching to stitch but the candle is lit.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I have a scented candle on for an hourish every night, I haven't really considered it before though. :thinks: And to be honest I would have thought it would give my project a nice smell

I always have a candle burning in my home. Considering that I sell the brand that I am burning, it is only natural that I have one going. I have never had a fragrance get into my project, regardless of the scent being burned. I also use a melter for candles and never have a problem. (My candles do not have paraffin in them so I can't say for sure how paraffin based candles might affect the material.)

It is a nice mood enhancer, especially when I am burning a Christmas scent and stitching.

I really don't know why it would be a problem. If you are enjoying the sent why would it matter if your stitching had a light scent to it. But I don't think that the material is going to absorb the scent that much if at all. I have candles and burn them occasionally when I stitch I have never had an ill effect.

I burn candles several times a week for hours (some lovely ones I get from my aunt & uncle that they make). I've never thought about the scent getting into my stitching, but I've never noticed the scent in my blankets and furniture, so I doubt it would get into the stitching fabric.

Smelly candles and stitching are like snow and skating, aren't they? 8)

Thanks for the advice. I will give it a try and see what happens. I'm only really dubious because my current projects will be given away. I am burning candles as my MIL has recently stopped work and she is a smoker with no other habits so now the house smells even though I keep mine and OH's bedroom door closed for most of the time.

I was concerned because they are Yankee Candles and I have always found the scents to be very noticeable (but very definitely pleasant)!
