Asian Home SAL

Post by Pengwenn »

So what do you do when you need to finish up another project so you can get it mailed in time for their birthday in February? Why, you start another project of course. I started this one on Monday because I was tired of always making things for someone else. I haven't stitched anything for me since 2002 or 2003. I stitched up 8 coasters for xmas gifts for coworkers plus the larger gifts I gave to family as presents so I thought it was time to do something for me.

I got the pattern awhile ago from patternsonline.com. Here is the final piece:

Image

It's 152 x 103 stitches and I'm doing it on 14 ct. Aida. The fabric is a VERY pale green and the darker parts are a surface dye. I found the fabric at a local shop and instantly knew I was going to do one of two patterns on it. Unfortunately there wasn't enough to do both patterns.

Here's waht I've done so far (I hope the colors on your monitor are set better than mine because it's very dark on my screen and the orange framing color on my screen is actually a golden straw color):

The pattern suits the fabric really well and I much prefer the colours looking brighter. I think this will look great. :applesauce: :applesauce:

I got it at a local mom & pop type of store. I picked up a bunch of solid colored fabrics there at the same time (I had 10 packages in hand but only walked out with 5 as I put the others back). This was the first time I had seen "splotchy" fabric there.

The other pattern I was considering was a Panda bear one also from patternsonline.com. That one would have used less fabric but I don't think I would have had enough left over for anything substantial.

I think it is wonderful that you are stitching something for yourself. The SAL Companion Stitcher is going to be just for me. I am excited to see it on my wall.
