Judith Kirby House #15 wanted, #9 available

Post by heatherphillytemple »

Hello everyone! I am desperately looking to replace my mother's House #15 pattern from the Judith Kirby Halloween design. She had received both from my grandmother after her death and the #15 pattern was recently destroyed in a flood before she was able to finish. She does have #9, if anyone is interested in a copy or wishes to purchase it, but she really really wants the other half. I would be so grateful is anyone would be willing to sell a photo copy of #15! I understand that this pattern is highly sought-after and very rare, but I would really appreciate your kindness if you are willing to share this pattern. She is a HUGE Halloween fanatic and I would be so so happy to give her this. Thank you for your time. God Bless.

Some one correct me if im wrong. you cannot ask people to photocopy a chart for you as this is against copyright.

Yes, swapping is fine, or simply giving or lending someone the chart, but it is not allowed to have two copies of the same chart in existence with two different people.

With that in mind, I hope someone will be able to help you out!

The ladies are right you can not ask for a copy of a pattern that is copyrighted and you can not offer to copy a pattern for them. Please check the thread about copyright rules. Thank you.

Actually, I called the publishing company and they said that once the copyright has run out, and the chart is no longer is print, there is absolutely NO copyright infringement in a photo copy. They specifically suggested a photo-copy be made since it is a rare find and because it is perfectly legal. This chart has been out of print for many years.

I may be wrong here, but I thought these were from the 1980's?? In which case, even if they are out of print, surely copyright rules would still apply. I don't think we would want to take a chance on something like this on our forum.

Susan you are right just because they are no longer in print does not make the copyright go away. The publishing company does not have the right to give that type of permission the only one that can give permission for the copy to be made would be the original designer or the legal guardian of the copyright.

It would be very dicey for this forum to participate in a copy of a pattern that is only a few years old copyrights can last for up to 95 years. Even if it is no longer in print.
