The pic in the background is one that my mum did, that took her 5 years and is my inspiration when I'm starting to flag a bit! I have a proper picture of it somewhere which I am currently completely failing to find on Photobucket, I'll post it later :)

I hope you can find it, I just went back and looked at it again. It looks very beautiful with all the detail in it.

Duly found :)

This is signed with mum's name and the dates 1977 - 1982. My brother was born in 1980. I was born in 1981. Not only was this started before I was born, my mum actually managed to finish it while looking after two little kiddies. She also stretched it herself, and apparently had much more patience with French knots than I ever will.

WOW!!!
That really is something very special. Isn't it delicate and don't the flowers look gorgeous and give that feeling of movement almost.
What a wonderful keepsake.

You don't get a very good sense of it from the photo but there's wonderful textures and depths in it too, created by the different stitches used. I had this up on the wall next to my bed when I was a kid, then I made my dad dig it out about a year ago so I could have it up here :)

I hope to one day impress my kids as much as my mum impressed me.

And I love that pic your mom stitched! Imagine doing that with small children around! I have enough problems with just a kitten!
