should i put them on the last page? Do you read posts differently than just going to the section?

Not sure how everyone reads the new posts :-), but I usually go to the section, then click on the "Go to first unread post" icon, which is why I don't see the first page; even when I click on "next topic" I then immediately click on "first unread post", and this is by now so automatic that I usually hardly see the first page of the thread! But I'll keep a special eye out for this one and not be so quick with my click-finger :-)

I guess everyone has their own way, I tend to look through pretty much like Mabel, by going from my own last post.
I've come to realise now though that your updates are on the first page, so like Mabel, I'll just go check it out to see if it's updated since I last saw it.

I usually click on View active topics and then go down the list wherever there is that little orange/red & black symbol to say that there's a new post since I was last on. I click on that to go to the ones I haven't read. Usually once I read the title I know where to look for your updates.

Well, I don't want to be the strange one so I'll go back to updating on the last page. That'll be easier. So, now you'll have to relearn my method!lol..

thanks for all the kindness

Just catching up with this thread and I think you have a lovely project there Laura. I like how you have put all the updates together at the beginning. It's good to see the project progressing.

Hi,
Here is an update. But, depressingly, there is another problem with this project. I have never in all the years of my stitching done this. I, to the best of my measuring, will only have 3/4 inch left at the bottom of the pattern. Now, the only thing I can do is alter the design at the bottom of the vase. On the bottom is that gold base.
In the finished picture, they left more room at the top of the design than at the bottom. There is a full picture of that on the first page along with the detail on this post. So, I guess, too, I could have the framer frame pretty close to the design. It is 14-count.
Any thoughts are welcome.
love
laura

What a shame -- was this a kit with the fabric in it? If they didn't give a generous enough cut you may have grounds for a complaint, although of course that doesn't really help with this after all the work you've already put into it. Could you sew on a bit of fabric, then frame it close to the design so the sew-line isn't visible? The extra sewn-on material would at least give you some more fabric to play with in the framing.

Well it is looking fabulous, but sorry about the problem. It would involve a bit of redesigning but what about shortening the neck of the vase ? Just a thought :thinks:

Guess I removed the finished photo from the kit. Yes, it did come with everything. I must have counted wrong because there is ample room at the top.
I don't know about sewing another piece. I'm afraid I could tell. I was just thinking before coming back here to just leave off that gold at the bottom. I don't think it would detract from the vase. I'm really not crazy about what they are wanting there which is gold wrapped thread. I think it may look too flashy. If I do that it will give enough room.

here is a pic of the kit photo
thanks!

I think you are right. The finish will look absolutely fine without the gold bit, in fact I think it will look better. It is a beautiful design and you have done a great job.

Hm. I'm not so sure ... that gold bit adds some 'weight' to the base of the vase, and I think it might look a bit unbalanced without something there... maybe do the top 5 or 6 rows, stepped a bit wider, and on every row (so it is on a little platform, rather than on feet), and do a top stitch pattern of your own choice onto it...? Just a thought.

Lovely pic, by the way, and great progress! :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce:

I think the gold can be left off without to much of a difference to the finished quality. I would leave it off just because anyway. :D

I think the vase will look just as good without the feet. The vase is pretty enough alone. This is looking lovely isn't it. :applesauce:

I'm sorry I didn't explain very well  -- I meant use the 3/4" that you have as the visible bit, then the sewn on bit simple to have something to frame it with, but the seam would be covered by the mat or frame. Hope that makes a bit more sense :-)!

But actually I like your solution of leaving out the stand, which seems a good way of conserving fabric without having to make too extensive changes. Good luck!

Thank you all! I think leaving out the stand is what will have to be done. I thought, like Fljotsdale said, to design another, but I think that would only save me a few stitches.

I get what you meant now, Mabel. Sometimes I'm not too quick on the draw. :?

Thanks for the complements. I am not liking the blue of the vase as yet. I probably will when other colors are added.

Recieved my Mystic Stitch Cinderella a few days ago and am in the process of getting it together. I think I am going to have to put off John Waterhouse's My Sweet Rose for a bit. Is that bad?

Have a nice day!
